Crap! That Hurts!

Purell- It isn't just a great hand sanitizer anymore.

It also does a fucking AWESOME job of letting you know where every single damn cut & skin crack is on your hands.

It's a very painful reminded that I should stop biting my nails.

I would love to have been there to see the bird-like arm flapping that must have ensued once the alcohol hit your owies :)

(yes, I'm evil. It adds to my charm!)

But what if you dribble it into your diet coke?

Despite my dedication to science, I don't want to be present for that experiment.

Our stuff smells like cheap vodka. And what do I have a hangover from drinking all night? Cheap vodak.

The stuff we have has successfully made my hands break out with eczema. I have to wear gloves all the time or parents think I have some contagious skin disease that I could pass onto their kids.

We have foam in our patient rooms and at all of the nurses stations. Pretty much the same thing... though it does wonders for acne and warts. A nurse just told me today and she had a wart for years that went away after two night shifts of using anti-bacterial foam... and apparently if cures zits... can't say that I've tried either... but I have accidentally sprayed it in my eye and it hurt like Hell.

Every late fall through winter, the combination of antiseptic soaps, cold, and dryness precipitates a dermatological condition, in which hand skin gives an appearance of loosened scales that will crack off--then, insult to injury; hand sanitizers to the raw dermis.

I guess I should be happy those nerve-endings still perform their alerting functions well. (That's what I console my excitable Eskie when she's safely indoors NOT attacking anyone. "Good Girl! You are doing a marvelous job of protecting your family.")

Taking Heart -
What is the name of the foam you have?!?! I'm 28 and I still struggle with acne (hangs head in shame) and I've done everything the dermatologist has thrown at me.

At least you didn't use Puffs with Vicks Vaporub in lieu of toilet paper...

Ditto the Talking Heart request - please share! Is it tha Hibiclens stuff?

I'm not even going to say how old-ass I am, but cuttting way back on sugar helped a ton with my zits. Makes sense, really, bacteria and all.

I don't know what it is called... I'm sure you can buy it at the drugstore.

Well... apparently some nurses I work with swear by the foam sanitizer that hospitals have everywhere... one of my co-workers told me that she dabs it on her zits, and says they go away. She swears by it.

She also said after using it (we foam any time we go in or leave a patient room and our hands aren't visibly soiled and in need of soap and water) for a few nights... a recurring wart on her hand shrunk and disappeared.

I use it a lot but have never put it on my face, lol ...it is hard on my my hands... probably a dermatologist's worst nightmare... makes my hands dry out really fast.

That is funny you asked. I guess if you had a zit on your face with a pulse and big enough to be declared as a state in the union... you'd try darn near anything. I've been known to lance and aspirate with a tb syringe... but, only when I'm bored. lol

good luck. :)

Tell me about it! And I don't care how moisturizing any of the brands claim to be. After using enough of it, my hands look like.. tree bark.

Anonymous, I think the antiseptic properties of hand santizers might be killing bacteria, hence making zits disappear.

Yeah, hurts like hell.

Got it in a second degree burn on my arm (deep frying accident). Paper cuts are nasty because they're so insidious, you may not even remember it's there...

Using Puffs with Vicks Vapo-rub as toilet paper.........you owe me a keyboard for that one, anon...

Get yourself some of this stuff: http://www.kiehls.com/_us/_en/body/hands-and-feet/ultimate-strength-hand-salve.htm

I used to have extremely dry and cracked hands all winter. Now I use this stuff and I don't have dry skin at all, though my hands do smell mildly like eucalyptus. Only thing I ever found that actually works. A bit pricey, but worth every penny.

Thank you, Talking Heart (and thanks for coming back here after I e-stalked you over to your blog!) :)

Yeah, and don't use it just before you take your contacts out. You might save that special occasion for soap and water.

Heh, really. The eye doc would get a laugh, at least.

OK, if anyone is still following along,

-the key ingredient in the Quik Care is 62.5% ethyl alcohol, and there is a much cheaper version at http://www.amazon.com/Sanitizer-Bottle-Contains-Moisturizers-Alcohol/dp/B001FLYCIO

The active ingredient in purell is ethanol.
So, I suppose you could drink some (as many patients have) to dull the pain.
I also dread paper cuts, as once I get one I have the pleasure of purelling them 20-40 more times before I go home.
