Mr. Acei: "I have terrible back problems."

Dr. Grumpy: "What kind of symptoms do you have?"

Mr. Acei: "My blood pressure goes up."

Dr. Grumpy: "But where does your back hurt?"

Mr. Acei: "My back feels fine."

Dr. Grumpy: "Then why do you say you have back problems?"

Mr. Acei: "What else could make my blood pressure go up?"

Dr Grumpy: "Well this conversation seems to do the trick for me."

Did the patient give any justification to his BP due to back pain theory?

No, they never do.

And I really never want to ask. Past experience has told me the answer is usually even more frustrating.

See, I could never just let it go. I'd just have to know what the thought process was behind his conclusion for hypertension. I guess I'm just wired that way, but it would bug me all day wondering what was going on in his head - might even make my blood pressure go up.

Was he seeing you for back pain? I never know when I read your posts whether they are just so out there because you deal with people who have brain injuries/neural diseases or whether you just live in some bizzaro land.

I would really, really like to know what he imagines the connection to be. I can understand your reluctance to ask, though. Your appointments probably aren't long enough for a complete remedial course in pathophysiology.

I have to ask...was this guy a self-referral?

Right. And your big toe controls your heart rate and your penis controls your emotions. Well, actually that last part is probably true.
