Public Service Announcement

Attention kids: It is NOT safe to pet an alligator.

Especially if it is a stranger telling you to do so.

You're not supposed to talk to them, so WHY THE HELL would you listen when one tells you to play with a gator?

Thank you, Lee!

Aw, but they are so snugly and cute.

That's just heartbreaking... if you can't trust random strangers with alligators who can you trust?

Alligators were brought to my school (properly muzzled and handled by a professional) for us to pet as children, along with non-venomous snakes. Kid probably thought it was okay. They say the burned hand teaches best, maybe the bitten one teaches even better.

Read the comments attached to the story. One commentator suggest that a Mudbogger was responsible. I hope that Mudbogging is not about to spread. Could be more trouble than not sending the Social Security checks on time.

This doesn't surprise me one bit, considering I live in the town where the kid is from...people aren't opperating on all cylinders around here apparently!

Hey, Deputy's Wife, I like the town where that kid is from! Great Wolf Lodge, Concord Mills, and not far from Charlotte. Ummm, yeah, I live nearby, too... ;)

Anyway, to defend the kid and his parents, they did think the guy worked there. If he looked legit, there was no reason to doubt him. I've worked in science museums, and I've seen the curators hold animals, including alligators, for the kids to pet.

I live pretty close to where this happened. There are small fences keeping people out of the "enclosure" and that's it. Why would anyone would let their child go near an alligator whose "handler" didn't have control over the alligators mouth? Everyone that works there has shirts with their logo on it and you would have to see at least 3 of these people before getting the area where they are kept... However, the good news(?) is that this has never happened before?
