Jess- a snack for this person would qualify as a triple whopper with cheese, extra onion, pickle, tomato, King size fry, vanilla milk shake, a half dozen (or so) cookies, and a diet coke ('cause having a real coke has too many calories).
Okay, so being a person who is nauseous a LOT, I sort of understand this statement... there are certain foods that always make me feel sick, other ones that I can only eat without feeling sick with a mostly fully stomach, and others that I can eat at any point... but the emptier my stomach gets and the hungrier I get, the less foods I have to choose from to eat...
Er... so this person's NEVER had an empty stomach? Ever? Never ever?
I have visions of a foetus with it's tiny hands out saying "I can't come out into the world, I can't take milk, it'll made me sick unless you feed me first."
I wonder if this guy takes Topamax. Seriously. If I didn't think I would sound as stupid as him I would totally say that too. I snack on freeze dried yogurt throughout the day so that I don't feel sick when I do decide to eat.
Hey, that´s a stupid thing to say. And that´s why I like reading your blog, to make me laugh and to know that I am not the only one to say stupid things once in a while :)
That guy (as you figured I guess) probably ment HOT food would make him sick so he had to eat something cold to prepare his stomach.
Check out Celiac Disease. The same thing happened to me and what I didn't realize was my "snack" (which was a small piece of Cadbury's chocolate" was gluten free. That then enabled me to tolerate so called good foods like whole wheat pasta, things I would force myself to eat thinking they were good for me.
This blog is entirely for entertainment purposes. All posts about patients, or my everyday life, or anything else may be fictional, or be my experience, or were submitted by a reader, or any combination of the above. Factual statements may or may not be accurate. I could be making all this up. I may not even be a doctor. The only true statement on here is that I probably drink more Diet Coke than you do. A lot more.

I find if I have food before food then the food doesn't make me sick either. What.
I wonder what the snack is?

Of course, I would have explained it better, so I suppose they're still an idiot for saying it that way :-p
There is something to be said about 5-6 small meals per day. But I suppose it's the LACK of RATIONAL thinking that is the problem with this patient.
Seriously, is this typical of neurology patients? I am going to have to ask my neurologist next week when I see him.
I should send him to your blog; unless you are him! LOL! Totally kidding Grumpy. My MD has two girls in HS and we live on totally different coasts.
DrG, do you save all these anecdotes up, or do you regularly see patients this dumb?
Both.
Huh - what's wrong with having a snack before a meal - I always eat my dessert first. You know the saying, life's short.
I'd rather fill-up on ice cream and cake - oh wait, maybe that's why I get sick after I eat dinner ;)

Some people are so damn strange...
Really? "All foods make me sick" isn't the snack a food???? Where do you find your patients, they seem like a bunch of whackos :)
Perhaps he or she should just continuously graze like a horse.
Maybe he's one of these guys that can eat plastic?
Record books and TV shows would love them
