Memories...

He was widowed and in his 80's. A delightful guy.

At his 2nd appointment he brought a pie for the staff. The office girls were flattered. They invited him back to the break room to have a piece with them. He chatted with them for a while, then left.

At every visit after that he brought a pie, and each time got invited back to share it with them. It was nothing more than casual chatting and a little flirting. Pleasant older gentleman, surrounded for 15-30 minutes by several considerably younger women.

When I'm in my 80's, I want to remember the pie trick.

Screw being 80, I already use the pie trick now. (Well, a variant anyway. In which I park my car beside a school, open the door and wave lollipops at little girls passing by. It makes me feel...young again. Cough.)

If you cut out the middle part of the pie, it looks like a CT scan.

Shame, I doubt it works on the men :(

Every Friday morning I stop at the Bakery and bring in muffins or crumb cake to the office. It is simply a way of saying thanks and have a nice weekend. They laugh and say I get my fruit from blueberry muffins.

But Dr. G, I almost sensed something more to your story. The title memories, hope your friend is still bringing pies.

I used to bring doughnuts to my philosophy class in college once a week. I got an A.

I have a particularly soft spot for 'little ol' men'. I wouldn't even need the pie as enticement, I'd want to bake him pie, and fuss over him, because there's just nothing more precious to me than a little old dude. I guess it's daddy-issues. :)

I always bring baked goods to poker night. It's a big winner with the boys ;)

Pharmacy Chick: I...WHAT? You mean...baiting little kids with lollipops is illegal these days? Jesus, why do people not tell me these things?!

You can start a little earlier than that — say, early 60s.

I've often thought that elderly folks go to the doctor as a social event. Sometimes it may be the only other human contact they get at that age. :(

Grumpy:

My unit has a pie/cake/cookie/petit fours guy.

He works part time in a bakery and we get all the mistakes.

No problem...we take them! Great for a sugar high at 230PM!
