Gee, thanks

More grainy, faxed pictures from a GI doc of the inside of my patient's rectum. This will really help me treat his Parkinson's disease.

I'd send it back with a note that said. Where in this picture is the man's brain?

Can somebody explain to me why fax machines are still used in healthcare? Is it not absurd to *fax* such a picture? You can't see shit! Oh...wait...maybe that's the point.... ;-)

There is an eye in the far right photo looking back!

I am a family doc and even I don't care at all when I receive those picutres of people's colons, microscopic images of skin lesions, etc. I've never done a colonoscopy and haven't looked into a microscope except for urines and wet preps in years. Believe me, I'll trust your experience of thousands over my forced glance in medical school years ago. In exchange, please don't prescribe antibiotics for the patient for his cold. Thank you.

Gumpy,
That's amazing! I didn't know rectal pictures could help treat neurological problems! And I try to read the common science mags too.

Was there a cranio-rectal inversion somewhere?

Yeah, yesterday I got a fax of a cardiology consult (rather than the requested psychiatry consult), for my new intake whose first question was "Why did my primary doctor send me to YOU?" I didn't have the heart *snort* to tell her it wasn't for her a-fib.

So that's what it looks like when you shake your booty.

faxes are such a waste of time, why do we use them? i can take a 10 megapixel photo on my £100 phone and bluetooth it to my £500 laptop, then send a perfect image anywhere in the world that has the internent and a screen. surely a hospital could manage that.
