Advice

Dr. Grumpy: "So, at your last visit I prescribed Quiloxitab for the symptoms. How's that working?"

Mr. Rummage: "Actually, I never took it. I decided to try herbal Oil de Baculum instead."

Dr. Grumpy: "Has it helped?"

Mr. Rummage: "Not yet, but the guy who told me to said it can take a few months."

Dr. Grumpy: "Is he a doctor?"

Mr. Rummage: "Not sure. My wife and I were out looking for a used suitcase this weekend, and he was having a garage sale."

"Old lamps, some dishes, paperbacks, medical advice... We got it all."

Anecdotal evidence is so much more convincing than clinical trial results.

"yes mum, I know killuquik did wonders for [crazee-friend's] MS. But I a) don't have MS, and b) have a doctor."

Please schedule your next follow up with the garage sale guy.

I could rant for a year on this subject. But I will just ask, what is the point of going to a doctor if you don't take their advice? It's a waste of time and money.

Perhaps if his primary symptom is impotence, oil de baculum would help...but I can't believe the number of times in a day I see people NOT taking meds as Rx'ed. Must drive you docs a little batty at times.

I don't like the name Dr. Grumpy gave the patient. I think he should have been called Mr.Bag O'Hammerz or Mr. Box Arox.

@Lisa, commonly all professionals have their advice ignored. Dr. Lawyers, CPA's, Architects and Engineers. People will do what they want to do regardless.

always remember, there are more of "them" , than "us"

Which is probably why chiropractors, naturopaths, homeopaths and herbalists are equivalent to doctors in patients' minds (because their advice is as valuable as the old pointy-hat recluse down the street who had symptoms just like your 25 years ago and managed a cure on her own ??? with eye of newt and ... .)

I see that all the time in the pharmacy. Waste of my time.

My aunt is a Doctor. Not a specialist. I worked her front desk for a few years. Her new pt presented with Lyme disease symptoms. She ordered tests and have Rx for drug to treat Lyme disease. He called a week later threatening to sue because he ended up in the ER in a neighboring town "almost dead" from Lyme disease and she didn't do anything for him. He was suing for delay of care. He was asked of he filled his Rx and started to take it before the ER trip and he said no. He was informed that he would have saved thousands of dollars on the ER (he was uninsured and my aunt saw him for 50% of her office fee) if he had taken it because it was to treat Lyme disease and if he has anymore legal issues to have his lawyer contact her lawyer. LOL dumb ass!
