Mary's desk, June 29, 2011

Lady walks in, writes name on sign-in sheet.

Mary: "Hi, Mrs. Chronos. Your appointment was 45 minutes ago."

Mrs. Chronos: "I know. Your office is near my Mom's nursing home, so I stopped to visit her."

Mary: "Okay, but he's already with his next patient, and we're packed full today. I'm going to have to reschedule you..."

Mrs. Chronos: "So you have something against my Mom?"

Mary: "No, but regardless of why you're late..."

Mrs. Chronos: "You just don't care about the importance of family!" (walks out).

I'm sure she spent the rest of the day bad mouthing that b*tch at the doctor's office who wouldn't let her be seen. Because it was totally Mary's fault.

Guess it never dawned on her that Mom would be available for a visit after the appointment. I don't know, but my Dad had a massive stroke which paralyzed one half of his body right down the center line and spent time in home. Never on going to visit him did I find him out galavanting somewhere.

Huh?!!?

Yes, it's a great idea to visit your mom if you're in that part of town. But that doesn't alter the time of your appointment.

I've always assumed that if something happens and I am going to be 15 minutes late (sometimes less) the office will want to reschedule me.

The only time I've been upset about having an appointment rescheduled when I was running late was at our former pediatric practice office, a practice where at least 75% of the time, we showed up on time and *they* are running 30 minutes or more behind. The time they insisted on rescheduling us they admitted that although we were 20 minutes late, they were running over 30, and we wouldn't have been taken back yet even if I'd been there on time! It's one of many reasons they are our *former* pediatricians.

I bet her Mom is just as much of a pain in the ass.

I'm thinking that's a good story, but Mom is in another county and her "punctual" daughter has to come up with another story.

That reminds me of the lady that I had who told me that I was hateful and lazy because I wouldn't schedule her for an appointment on Christmas.

"Just because YOU are too lazy to come in doesn't mean that the rest of us don't want to be here!!"

Uhh, you can come in all you want, lady...you'll be pretty lonely, though, seeing as how none of our docs are going to show up either :) It's amazing how much those of us up front hate family, time, space, holidays, vacations, etc, etc etc...oye.

What rock are these people living under? What doctor's office is okay with them coming in 45 minutes late for an appointment? Goodness gracious.

Btw, I miss you ERP :-(

I had a patient just last week who called to say he was going to be 20 minutes late (he was *already* 25minutes late when he called, so he would have bee 45 minutes late) because he didn't realize it would take him so long to get to our office. When I told him he would need to reschedule he started ranting and raving that he had already been on the road for 2 hours. He then hung up on me and still proceeded to show up at our office. I guess he thought I would change my mind if he actually came in. NOPE! He then stormed out saying he was not rescheduling and was changing doctors....I took real pleasure in denying his refill request that the pharmacy sent yesterday. Jerk, it's not my fault you didn't leave your house early enough.

On the other hand I had a dentist scream at me - literally scream - because I was 15 minutes late for an appointment. When he was running 15 minutes behind schedule. I walked into the office at exactly the moment his patient was leaving, I didn't keep him waiting at all, but he was still furious with me.

These posts truly baffle me. I work in a pharmacy and am used to people valuing their own personal time above anyone else's, but holy crap you have some of the craziest crazies. It just astounds me that people think it's okay to behave like that! kudos to you and your office staff for continuing to deal with them :)

There is nothing much left to say after the *stormtrooper* dude zapped her on the key issue.
A lot of people need someone like Mary to schedule their lives for them.

::rolls eyes:: If I were in the same position I'd naturally plan to visit my mom after my appointment! Geez Louise! It all goes back to people being so self-centered.

Yesterday, at the DDS, the power went out in the middle of my crown procedure. Turns out a transformer blew up at the electric company, so power was going o be out for a while. The covered the exposed tooth as best as they could with some cement, apologized, and asked me to come back today. I did, and was taken care of promptly in their now, overloaded schedule. Both the DDS and hygienist apologized and thanked me for being understanding. I told them no problem; it's not their fault. The hygienist told me a few pts were yelling at them bc they had to get off work to get to the office. What is wrong with people? NO POWER. Look around....no traffic lights, no one else is open.
