Like, You Know

Okay, Grumpyites, the following quote was uttered to me by a drug rep about 5 minutes ago:

"So, Dr. Grumpy, you know, I came in because I'd like to know, you know, what you, like, know about our new product, and what your patients know about it, and, like, what you think about it, and all that stuff, like that, you know?"

Helen: I told her I had a patient waiting and ran away, you know.

Inverse correlation -
Amount of education of a drug rep vs. boob size

Direct correlation -
Hottness of a drug rep vs. likeliness MD will prescribe their drug just so they come back with more samples :)

In defense on my reps, I like most of them.

Most of them are decent people, working hard to support their families, just like I work hard to support mine. They have their job and I have mine.

Unfortunately, just like with doctors, teachers, and clergymen, it only takes a few bad ones to give them all a horrible name.

Again...."Idiocracy" quote fits your associates to a T

Doctor: [laughs] Right, kick @ss. Well, don't want to sound like a d*ck or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're f*cked up. Ah, you talk like a f@g, and your sh*t's all retarded. What I'd do, is just like... like... you know, like, you know what I mean, like...

*sighs*....we might be doomed.

Tenth grade speech teacher--third assignment, can't remember her name, let's say, Miss Smith, like, Dieter, on his third speech, punctuating every sentence, with 'like', 'y'know', and 'c'mon'. Like, totally, we all sat there and yelled in unison every single time, 'Yes, Dieter, you're a good guy, and WE know'. Kinda broke him of the habit, y'know. Dieter was a good guy, local chess champ, and Miss Smith was a good speech teacher. Our school's debate team always won top prize in the state, like y'know. Guess they don't teach speech in the public schools anymore.

I am a pharma sales manager - sounds like the average rep of 2009 to me.

note to Flavius:
Why must you assume that the drug rep was female? I see no indication of the drug rep's gender in the original post.

I have known males to sound like that as well.

Dr. Grumpy:
So how bad was the headache after the drug rep left? *wry*

Thank God for this post! I now know there is a career out there for my 15 year old son with the same speech impediments.

I know I use a few words over and over too -like "ya know" in particular; my son is notorious for inserting "Do you know what I mean?" or "Does that make any sense to you?" in his speech so much that his sisters and I rag him frequently about this habit. But out of curiosity, I'm wondering about the age of this rep as he/she sounds like the 17-year-old in the family who peppers every sentence quite liberally with the like, like, like thing and it, quite frankly drives me a bit bonkers, if you know what I mean, ya know. Does that make any sense? ARRZGH!
