Lalataw

I saw this in a hospital chart note this morning:

No, I have no idea what it means.

I've never heard of Lalataw. And I don't know why someone would, or wouldn't, want to be active in it.

Or what it has to to do with a stable guy admitted for a headache, anyway.

a friend helped me out, coz I couldn't figure it out: active inhalation (really? wheres the o?)
anyway - with all those posts, when I get to the hospital - im going to write in all CAPS ALL THE TIME!

No active inhalations.

Even with what I think it meant to say:
0 active inhalation
It doesn't make sense. Maybe someone has a better guess. This bothers me, how many patients have suffered incorrect treatment because the order wasn't legible.

No active inhalation?

How about "no active inhalation"

0 Active Inhalations?

I thought of that, too, except it doesn't correlate with anything going on with him.

I will jump on the bandwagon as well, with "No active inhalations."

Then again, maybe he meant -- and this is especially scary if all the patient had was a headache -- "No active interventions."

Not in La-La Town, anyway.

I have no medical background ... no active inhalation, to me, says he's not breathing!

"Not active in Lala Town" - i.e., he's on bedrest in Los Angeles.

No Active in(crease)in Alat...something..&w? (<Alat&w) whatever Alat is! Is the L a < sign?!The 'a' almost like a shorthand for with/which/who or even be/by/been, if my terrible school shorthand memory serves me correct!?! Or does he really just mean 'lala town'? They write in excellent hieroglyphics or secretarial shorthand ?! Anyways, let us know if you find out - great sleuth puzzle post!:-)

So maybe he smokes but doesn't actively inhale? Only passive smoke for him.

The person who wrote this was watching and then inspired by "Arrested Development", which has a lawyer on it named "Bob Loblaw".

Hey Dr G. Come work in the pharmacy with me for a day - you'll have enough bad doctor's handwritting material to last for at least the next few months.

Perhaps het meant Lalaland = sleepwalker -> lack of sleep -> headache?

And here I was thinking lactation ;)

I read it as "no active inhalation" which would be an odd but technically correct description of someone who is apneic as part of a brain death exam. But Dr. Grumpy says that's inconsistent with this patient's condition, so maybe not.

As one who reviews hospital records quite frequently, things like this make me love EMRs.

Is the patient a lawyer? "Not active in law at all" written by a very sleepy, dyslexic resident.

Hospitalized for a HA?!?!?! Waz up wid dat???

So I guess since it's a guy lactation is out too . . .

Okay, so some of you big city folks might find our little town to be a bit too sleepy for your taste, but the folks here are friendly and it's a great place to raise your children.

The Society for Lalataw Awareness said...

This is a terrible situation indeed. It must be rectified immediately, lest Grumpyville and all its inhabitants be consumed in flames and lava and earthquakes and lightning and hydrofluoric acid and antimatter when the great god Lalataw manifests Himself on earth. Save yourselves while you still can.

" No Active Inhalation"-
Obviously the patient is none other than Bill " I didn't Inhale" Clinton.

You obviously never had a severe migraine.

An accurate note that belongs in somebody else's chart?

Maybe he used to huff paint, but now he has no active inhalations.

BTW, the Google images for "huffing paint" are priceless.

Dr. J said...

Almost certainly 'no active inhalation' meaning that whoever wrote it doesn't think it is a carbon monoxide case.

If they were on a ventilator, I'd assume that meant they weren't breathing over the vent, that the machine was donig all the work for them. If not on a vent, well then I'd call a coroner.

I think evitafjord (June 27, 2013 at 7:08 PM) got it right:

"Maybe he used to huff paint, but now he has no active inhalations."

Besides huffing paint, could also refer to sniffing glue, (or other toxic substances) any of which could trigger a migraine; such as diesel fumes; strong perfume, etc.
