Unfortunately, the power was out for a few hours this afternoon due to the snowstorm. This is a major inconvenience, but what can you do? So the patients and I work through it as best we can.
Not the ortho doc, though. 10 minutes after it went out he came storming out of an exam room and went up to his secretary.
"Suzy! This power outage is unacceptable! Call the electric company and have them turn it back on immediately!"
Pissy and I had a hard time not cackling as he marched back into the exam room.

Well, my heart goes out to Suzy. I hope that a$$ doesn't end up causing her so much stress she develops cancer.
ok, to play grammar jerk, Dr Orthotwerp "rents from Dr Pissy and me", not I.
The way to remember how to get it right is to remove the "other-noun and" (or "and other-noun"). So, Dr Orthotwerp "rents from [...] me."
It feels wrong, because we get hammered about saying "Bob and me went to do this" - but that's wrong because "me went to do this" is wrong. The correction gets made to "Bob and I" without the explanation, leaving people making knee-jerk corrections that are often incorrect.
In related news, Dr Orthotwerp is an idjit. But that, you knew.
Today's grammar lesson has been brought to you by the captcha word: affevugh. This is the word that describes how most people feel after reading impromptu grammar lessons.
Well if God rules the heavens and the earth, and created
Eve from Adam's rib, then it follows that a such a super duper surgeon believes he can lord over the power company.
"Suzy! Make it happen!"
I have a feeling, though, Suzy has a very similar mindset, and would be the first to achieve something with the electrical company, were that possible. At least our secretaries are a lot more gung-ho about getting things done than the rest of the hospital.
Doesn't he know how a power outage works yet?!?! Thanks for the chuckle
Hey now! That's an ORTHO surgeon's mindset...don't go blaming all surgeons for that!
;)
Hope they put him on hold, and by that time, the power comes back outhl (wv)!
One of my favorite memories was being in an OR while a CARDIAC SURGEON was operating and yelling into a phone being held up to his ear. "You cannot turn off my power! Do you know who I AM?!! My wife is on the city council!! You will be sorry!!!" And then he said amazed "She hung up on me."
It still makes me laugh. I am sure the person talking to him would have personally pushed the button turning off his power!
the power is out. they must fix it.
Why do I have the feeling that Mary actually COULD get the power back on?

I've yet to meet or work with an ortho that didn't think he was the reason the sun rises and sets every day.
Your office phones would work during a power outage?
Surgeons - they are such a hoot.
"HEY YOU GUYS!!!!"
I'd rather deal w/ a cardio surgeon than an ortho ANY day!!!
I suppose that if things go bad in the OR he'll just command the patient to survive and blame the patient if they don't comply?
Cellphones would work in a power outage, as well as old-style rotary dial phones, provided you have a land line and non-digital type service. Thus, after a hurricane a few years ago, we had phone service, but no power for a week. We could call relatives to tell them we were fine, but thankfully they could not smell our laundry bin.....
If I remember correctly, my genetics course taught that arrogance and entitlement are both carried on the surgeon gene.
Sounds like one of the doctors i work for. A few months ago there was an earthquake on the east coast, and being in delaware we were affected, not only was he inconvienced by the earth quake but he wanted me to hurry up the fire marshal so we could re enter the building

The beauty of these types is that it takes no effort on our parts to make them look silly.
And my friends wondered why I ended up in therapy after working at an orthpaedic institute for 4 years while in college. UGH. Jerks
I have had the “opportunity” to visit two surgeons as a patient this year. (It sucks to have met my 2012 deductible in the first 3 weeks of the year.) One was Ortho the other Neuro, both were crazy.
Orthopedists.
Abracadabra!!
CARDIOLOGY ATTENDING, AFTER HEARING SATURDAY CONFERENCE WAS SCHEDULED ON SAME DAY/TIME HIS FAV COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM HAD MOVED START TIME BECAUSE OF TV COVERAGE START, TO CONFERENCE PLANNER:
WELL, YOU NEED TO CALL (O-HECK COLLEGE) THE SPORTS COORDINATOR AND TELL THEM THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AND THEY NEED TO REVISE THE START TIME (OF THE GAME, AS NOT TO AFFECT HIS PRESENTATION SCHEDULE)
I AM NOT CERTAIN HOW LONG WE BOTH STOOD WITH OUR MOUTHS OPEN. ANOTHER REASON WHY I SELECTED ANOTHER FIELD OF MEDICINE....
I am positive I worked for that guy!
