I remember that generation of new fathers when they felt their wives aches and pains of pregnancy. She probably had a husband who was like that when she was breastfeeding. As a female, that's how my young'uns were nourished for a while after birth, but, I certainly don't care to recall every single type of ache and pain in life. We'd never get anywhere as a species if all that remained vivid to the day.
It's not thrush she is describing, not with the pain starting immediately after nursing - this pain sounds a lot like vasospasm or Raynauld's. And it really hurts so much it is not at all strange that she remembers it years later. Still her very apt description remains lost on Dr. Grumpy.
It's not lost on me.
The point is more that I obviously would have no personal physical reference for what it would feel like to breastfeed.

I guess we have to assume that Dr. G. wasn't one of those men who feels compelled to strap on a feeding tube and "breast feed" their babies.

Now you know why we females often (not always) prefer female OB/GYNs. They have some frame of reference.
Damn, I have breastfed four kids, for a grand total of 42 months lactation, and never felt pain in the nipple after the baby finished.
Can't agree with Anonymous 7:26. After one horrendous experience with a female OBGYN who was a mean heartless bitch, and who nearly killed my baby because of her reluctance to get out of bed to deliver him, I eschew all female OBGYNs. In my experience, male physicians are generally kinder than female physicians. That includes my own family. My late father was an OBGYN and a very kind man, but my mother and sister are physicians and both are mean narcissistic bitches.
Oh. My. Hell.
