What is a Gumby? I am mystified by the way the newsreader expects me to know what a Gumby is. Is this common knowledge?

Now I'm dating myself here, but Gumby was a claymation character and there had been TV show on many, MANY years ago, called Gumby and Pokey. Gumby was this tall green character who looked like a pencil eraser or something. Pokey was his sidekick and friend, a pink horse.
