Maybe he had Alzheimer's disease and had the anterograde amnesia (do they have retrograde amnesia of memories prior to the onset of the disease or only loss of memories from since the disease began?) or Parkinson's psychosis where he thought his Dad had some sort of diease.
Sounds like Alzheimer's is the likelier of the two...
Yup, and she takes a white pill for it...
Maybe it was idiotitis - quite contagious from what I've heard :)

Mr. Vague, your father suffers from SOS, stupid offspring syndrome, there is no cure.
And this is how Albert Camus got the inspiration for "The Stranger..."

Surely you could look at the pill and tell what it is based on the color? Yes? If that fails, perhaps a crystal ball. And there is ALWAYS your "MIND POWERS" that we in the medical field are suppose to have?? No?
I was told by a patient once "I have that disease where you twitch.." "seizures?" "no." "parkinsons?" "no.... it's that DiaBETTies (gotta love the pronounciations). When my blood sugar gets real low, I twitch".

Three guesses.
Is there an ICD-9 code for Somekindadisease? It seems to be one of the more common causes of death reported in family histories.
In your patient's case you might have been able to check out the first two by asking, "Did he remember who you were?" and "Did he shake a lot?"
