Ah, the ethical and oedipal question about whether someone should date their transgendered child.
I'm guessing Chris is the boyfriend of the female patient's mother.
Maybe the patient's boyfriend and daughter are both named Chris? Maybe the daughter and her boyfriend are both named Chris? I know two (heterosexual) couples who have the same first name (Carol/Carol and Bryn/Bryn). Maybe it's easier just to write one name for both :)

I had a patient introduce himself as the son, then later identify himself as the boyfriend O.o

maybe be "boyfriend's daughter".... some people cannot deal with apostrophes and the mysteries of punctuation
