obviously the work of a novice. A true professional would have used duct tape.
Looks like black 200 MPH racers tape to me... what's the issue?
I have seen the entire rear bumper taped onto the back of the car. Not unusual, I'm afraid to say.

I can't wait for you to get back. I realized I am really addicted to your blog.
That looks like Gorilla tape. That stuff will hold the trunk for a highway trip. I had a headlight taped into my car for many months and Gorilla tape held it in nicely at highway speeds.
It will, however, leave a nasty residue on the paint.
