The fun ships

In a court filing concerning the Carnival Triumph's "cruise-o-sewage" last February, the cruise line's lawyers stated that a cruise ticket "makes absolutely no guarantee for safe passage, a seaworthy vessel, adequate and wholesome food, and sanitary and safe living conditions."

Thanks for clearing that up Carnival. I'll keep it in mind when planning next summer's vacation.

Using a surgeon for major surgery as apposed to a GP "makes absolutely no guarantee for safe recovery, a trained surgeon, adequate anesthesia, appropriate and sterilized equipment, and safe hospital conditions."

Hmmm, how well would that go over in court?

Sure, go ahead blame the lawyers.

You never once think what it like to have to say shit like that, how gut wrenching it is to realize that you have fallen that far. Noooooooo, you never think about that not even once.

As an attorney, the argument makes perfect sense to me, as "guarantee" is a very strong word for a profession that would rather qualify every duty as being only "to a reasonable extent." (Same reason a neurosurgeon doesn't tell his patients, "I 100% guarantee you will wake up after i stick a knife in your brain!" even though that is really what they want to hear.)

However, there are a lot of horrible wrecks at the intersection of Law Street and Public Relations Boulevard.
