Patient quote of the day

"Barfing is much worse than diarrhea, though I think the caveat depends on the exit velocity."

And doing both at the same time is exponentially worse.

I'd agree that barfing is worse, but the exception is when you can't make it to the toilet in time.

yes. it's not like my asshole has anything better to do, and it's accustomed to hovering over the toilet bowl. my poor throat, mouth and nose, on the other hand...

Love this blog for the deep philosophical discussions that take place.

Was it not Plato who originally posited the original theory. Maximus Barfus, Minimus Shites

PS. As one who was ill most of 2015 with Ulcerative Colitis (the disease that you do wish on your worst enemy) I can tell you that there is diarrhea and then there is DIARHEA, The latter being the 20 to 30 movements take me now Lord kind. I am not afraid of a little barfing, but I got to tell you the memories set me to sweating and trembling.

It also depends on what sexual position you happen to be in at the time.

So what is the average air speed velocity of a fully-laden reverse swallow?

would love to know the story that led to this conclusion!
this would make an interesting research project, wouldn't it....

Put me down on team diarrhea.

Well said by the patient

What I hate most are those situations where you diagnose barfing, but all the gastroenterologists you refer your patient to keep insisting that it's diarrhea.

"Specifically, when [v(diarrhea) - v(barf)] = 13.4 m/s, the badnesses are exactly equal at standard sphincter tightness and stomach pH, although you have to add an extra 0.3 m/s to this for every gram of barf that's expelled through the nostrils, and subtract 0.5 m/s for every 100 microns of rectal dermis that's been previously abraded by toilet paper."

I SO agree! I spent a couple years throwing up a lot & another couple years with diarrhea. The barfing didn't clear the bathroom at work as quickly as the diarrhea.

Oh it's so true... and I still don't know why. I'd rather clean up c. diff diarrhea than vomit.

Or, worse yet, the entry velocity.

Barfing is definitely worse. Because unless something is going very, very wrong... you don't get bits of diarrhea stuck up your nose.
