Saturday afternoon

Dr. Grumpy: "This is Dr. Grumpy, returning a call."

Mrs. Adna-Thompson: "Hi, I'm one of your patients, and I'm at Glove World amusement park today."

Dr. Grumpy: "What can I do for you?"

Mrs. Adna-Thompson: "Well, we're in line for the Fiery Fist O' Pain, the roller coaster that goes upside down a few times. I'm afraid the upside down part will give me a migraine."

Dr. Grumpy: "So..."

Mrs. Adna-Thompson: "So, can I hand my phone to the attendant? I want you to tell him not to send my car on the upside-down part."

Dr. Grumpy: "Um, I think that's a function of the track. There's nothing he can do about it. Why don't you just not go on the ride?"

Mrs. Adna-Thompson: "That's what the attendant and my husband both said! You're no help at all!"

Grumpy, it's the middle of the night! For Pete's sake turn off the cell phone and go to bed.

All I can say to that....WTF.

I love that you used Spongebob's Glove World for this one!

I got the Adna-Thompson reference, but not the Glove World one. You expand my horizons regularly. ;) As for the patient, WTF indeed...not sure whether the bigger issue is the cluelessness or the sense of entitlement!! A sense of humor must be required in your line of work...

THis is so much more productive, that is your additions/comments in the wee hours, when those insane middle of night calls arrive, than say....stewing about it for another hour, despite all best intents and years of trying to igore the stupidity of it all... there still are those nights when only recourse is chanting......go back to sleep/dont let them win/there are more of them than us..... temptation would have been to tell her to ask attendant if she could ride 5-6 times in a row, and provoke small bleed, but likely has bred by now....

Anon 10:22 : might have bred isn't an excuse for not culling. Damagecontrol is important if you've failed at prevention.

And if they could "skip that part", did she think the other 7 passengers in her car should be limited by her migraines, or did she think she deserved a car to herself?

I have personally met a lot of people I'd consider either stupid or clueless, but I often am completely amazed at the people you write about. It must be true, no one could make this stuff up.

well, she could be at local grade school today, demanding eye exams for her children....

One of the most admirable characteristics of a physician is his or her willingness to be accessible ... wait a minute!! Who the h--- is screening these calls?

LOL...I didn't get the Adna-Thompson reference until I checked it out on Wikipedia, but I totally got the Spongebob references. I don't think I want to know what that says about me...

Definition of clinical insanity?
Seeking another second opinion when the first second opinion doesn't agree with your own first opinionated opinion...
