Baffled-- it would not be icky if you did not read all of that .Reading the ingredients of most things would turn you off of them. For icecream, just enjoy .
Well, I remember, that in the late 1970s, after my tonsilectomy, the doctors orders included eating all the ice cream that I could eat.
Of course, that was the catch, because post tonsilectomy, I could not eat much of anything (including the ice cream) before the pain became unbearably intense.
I understand that the purpose, of ice cream after a tonsilectomy, is to keep the surgery site moist, for better healing.
IMHO, this doesn't qualify as ice cream. It is some weird chemical concoction masquerading as ice cream. Real ice cream is milk, sugar and flavoring. This stuff is crap.
Personally, I thought that this was a pretty good post, on something besides the antics of patients. And as a diabetic, I miss ice cream a lot...especially root beer floats.
Dreyers? We have something that comes in an identical package, but it's called Edy's. And isn't that Slow Churned kind supposed to be low(er) fat than regular? Me, I'll stick with my Breyer's Mint Chip (all natural!) or butter pecan- my kids hate the nuts in butter pecan, so there is more left for me!
Don - make your own! The first icecream book I bought was in the USA and gives diet recipes. It's just so much better... and there's the plus that you know what's in it!
I am probably educationally deficient. But not living on another planet. Just confused/ curious. Is "Cookie Dough" American code for something that's 'naughty but nice', aka 'ice-cream'? (British roots showing up here.... actually, old boy)
Reminds me of a recent commercial that makes me laugh every time - the "mom" in the commercial says, " I spread Nutella on healthy foods I feed my family"
Nutella is pure fatty, sugary chocolatey deliciousness, so this lame attempt to associate it with healthy food in any way is just ridiculous.
Though, given the average American's nutritional knowledge and inability to think, it's probably a very successful commercial.
Aw!! Dr. Grumpy!! I love your blog, and I generally agree whole-heartedly with you, but I'm gonna have to (mostly) side with Edy's here! I see nothing wrong with their statement (particularly given that it's on the package of their lower-fat, yet still abso-freaking-lutely delicious product . . . a product most people I see in the supermarket pass up in favor of its "regular" higher-fat counterpart). If they had said "consuming ice cream is good for you!!", I would balk, but I personally agree that low-fat ice cream in moderation can fit into a healthy diet . . . of course, I say I "mostly" side with Edy's because I would suggest that they bold "moderate" rather than "healthy" and put it in 40-pt font. :)

I always say, specifically with ice cream, why moderate when I can over indulge and help my calcium levels!
PLUS if I top it off with a diet coke, the calories are neutralized.... right?!

It doesn't say anything about *ice cream* directly. It says "the moderate consumption of dairy products supports a healthy lifestyle."
If you're dumb enough to think that means you should eat a half gallon of ice cream, well, you probably have bigger issues.

Cookie dough ice cream is vanilla ice cream with chunks of cookie dough (usually chocolate chip) mixed in.
I hate to tell you guys this, but I eat Edy's Slow-Churned all the time. It can't be as chemical-ridden as Twinkies... :)
