The waiting dead

Before we left on vacation I took Frank to the MVD to get his (drumroll) DRIVING PERMIT.

Anyway, we were waiting in line for the clerk, Roz, to review his forms.

Roz: "You didn't mark this question, about being an organ donor."

Frank: "I didn't like either of the answers."

Roz: "It's yes or no. What else do you want?"

Frank: "If I die in a wreck I want to be cryogenically preserved so I can be brought back as a living anti-zombie."

Roz: "Living... Anti... Zombie..."

Frank: "You don't have that option on the form."

Roz: "If that happens your parents can work out the details."

Frank: "What if they're already infected?"

Roz: "By what?"

Frank: "The zombie virus."

Long pause

Roz: "Take the paperwork to window 29 and they'll get your picture. NEXT!"

ROTFL!!!

Welcome back Dr G, I've been missing my daily laughter fix while you've been gone.

Hope you had a good break and have some great tales to tell.

And somewhere out in the Internet world, Roz is blogging under a pseudonym about her daily adventures working at the MVD and the crazy, insane things she hears.

Circle of life.

"Does that sign above my head say I give a damn? That's because I don't." Gotta love the DMV.

My child remembers when they got their learner's permit and also the day they were allowed to start learning. Likewise the day they got their driver's license and the day they were allowed to drive. Both times the two events were separated by the passage of time and the sustained demonstration of responsibility. I was the meanest, most non-understanding parent to have ever lived and remain such to this day.

stay safe.

You live in my area because Roz works in our DMV, she also works in town hall, the library, the utility company.

Oh good Lord. You ought to have a warning label so people don't choke on their morning beverages while viewing your posts!!!

And good job Frank. My condolences to Sr. and Mrs. Grumpy -- now starts the sleeping with one eye open phase of child rearing.

My son took driver's education his Senior Year of High School. He has never been excited about driving.

He graduated last May. In June, he moved 125 miles away and got a job. He came home for a visit last night.

He plans on getting his driver's license 'next week'.

Good job Frank.

Gotta love that Frank. Like father, like son.

Sometimes I worry about zombies, too. Living close to Atlanta does not help a bit.

Welcome back, Dr G. I'm glad you and the family came home safely. Share what you can, and treasure the rest of it!

Gotta love the "Roz"s of the world - they may not smile, but they keep the wheels of bureaucracy turning (albeit slowly). Wouldn't want that kind of "first line dealing with the public all day" kind of job - you never know who is coming at you, and you aren't allowed to hit them or cuss them out!
Besides, part of the coming of age process of getting a driver's license is experiencing the motor vehicle registry.
And condolences to Dr. and Mrs. Grumpy - having a student driver in the household can be maddening. All those skills you learned with your toddlers will now be put to the test. As Skidmark wrote, being the meanest parent in the world can be useful in this part of parenting.

I hope you talked to your child about what it's like to work with the public and have to deal with multiple smartasses who hold up the line trying to be funny.

Grumpy, M.D. said...

Sadly, he wasn't trying to be funny. He was serious, and actually believes this shit. Because, you know, it says so on the internet.

ROz: this is a secret government test to identify who can survive the zombie apocalypse. if you can made informed decision based on two options.. or not.
if you can't make a decision, we cant let you drive...

Seriously, sometimes it's nice to have someone with a sense of humour come along and break up the monotony of the day. Surely the people behind him in line were not in that much of a hurry. They were at the DMV after all. Nothing goes quickly there.

"Roz"?

Sounds like somebody's been watching "Monsters, Inc."
