We don't don't call that an allergy, we call it the expected therapeutic effect. If he still has some in his medicine chest from 2010 when it was no longer manufactured in the United States, he won't be using it recreationally, or possibly abusing it?
This blog is entirely for entertainment purposes. All posts about patients, or my everyday life, or anything else may be fictional, or be my experience, or were submitted by a reader, or any combination of the above. Factual statements may or may not be accurate. I could be making all this up. I may not even be a doctor. The only true statement on here is that I probably drink more Diet Coke than you do. A lot more.

One of my patients last week said he gets hives with prednisone; another claimed to have anaphylaxis to benadryl...

"But at least it doesn't make my mouth turn green, and it doesn't taste like gasoline."
"Next year, I'm DEFINITELY bringing something different to Burning Man."
What a coincidence! I have that same allergy!

So it doesn't make you high? Rats!
I once had a patient tell me he was allergic to epinephrine...
Me: What happens when you receive it?
Mr. Dumb: It makes my heart race.
Now THAT would be a short Code Blue!!
Anon 6.42am - hives is actually a listed side effect of pred. Rare and less severe...
Thanks Eileen. I don't doubt that, it just seems horribly ironic. :P
