Life at the cheap motel

Dr. Grumpy: "Okay, we'll try this new medication, and I'll see you back in a month. Any other questions?"

Ms. Viridae: "Yeah, it looks like I have, um genital herpes. Can you call in some Valtrex for me?"

Dr. Grumpy: "No, that's not something I treat. I recommend you go back to your family doctor to have it properly evaluated and get the right medication."

Ms. Viridae: "I'd rather not... I think he's the one who gave it to me."

Wow. What do yo do about that anyway? Awkward.

I would go to Public Health if it were me with an STD and I didn't want anyone to know.

What do you mean "I think"? How many family doctors is this woman jumping into bed with?

He gave her the diagnosis, she didn't have VD before the diagnosis, so it's the Doctors fault.

Yikes-depending on how she got it from him (or thinks she got it from him) you might be obligated to report it to your state medical board.

Years ago, I had a patient tell me she was diverting narcotics to her primary physician. Turns out, he was already on the medical boards radar and that was all they needed for disciplinary action.

The new standard in Dr./patient confidentiality. It was recently added as an addendum of course, to HIPAA.

It's times like these that I begin to wonder how they think it's transmitted. ::face:laptop:repeat::

I performed a vasectomy on a patient years ago. At a dinner party I later attended (wife and patient were there), the guy's wife blurted out "Well, if I'm pregnant, it's DOCTOR XXXX'S FAULT." Oh jesuslordalmighty, that was embarrassing.

Dr. XXXX

Awkward. Other posters have brought up the ethical issues, but I think the Grumpy Lawyer(TM) may get involved here.

Waht did you do? Let her go back to the not-so-ethical doc or suggest a referral to an OB/GYN?

Just asking.

My advice: Arrange to meet Dr Cold Hands-Warm Heart at the Cheap Motel and give it back to him, with pustules...
