Dr. Grumpy: "This is Dr. Grumpy, returning a call."
Debbie: "Hi, it's Debbie, Dr. Nerve's office manager. Are you going to be covering his new partner, Dr. Axon's, hospital patients this weekend?"
Dr. Grumpy: "Does he have any hospital patients?"
Debbie: "No. He doesn't even have hospital privileges yet, so he won't have any hospital patients."
Pause
Dr. Grumpy: "Then why are you asking?"
Debbie: "Because Dr. Nerve told me to."

Lol, best to be on the safe side .
"I was only 45 minutes into telling him about the bunion surgery I had the other day, when he suddenly remembered that I needed to call you and ask about this."
But did he say "Simon says?"
Once again Dr Grumpy teaches us denizens of the other side of the pond more about how US healthcare works than a year of reading NEJM/JAMA editorials…
Facepalm!
I I will do it this time but he has to promise to do it twice for me at sometime in the future are we OK with that what is your name again tell him the arrangements you made
Is it possible that Dr. Nerve is a dictatorial little twerp, as in "just do what I said, don't dare question me" ?
I've known engineers like that.
"I'll be happy to cover Dr. Axon's hospital patients this weekend!"
Dr. Nerve would not be able to cover for Grumpy when it is his turn, if he does not have privileges. Does not seem fair at all.
Mss. Debbie is doing CYA. She was told to do something. She did it. CYA.
