Wednesday afternoon

I'm at the nurses' station, writing a note. A cardiologist puts a chart next to me and sits down.

Dr. Snow: "Hi, Ibee."

Dr. Grumpy: "Oh, hi, Mike."

Dr. Snow: "You seeing the new guy with the stroke?"

Dr. Grumpy: "Yeah. Hey, how'd your family ski trip go?"

Dr. Snow: "We had to cut it short. My oldest son broke his leg on the second day."

Dr. Grumpy: "I'm sorry, is he okay?"

Dr. Snow: "Yeah, but he needed surgery. It was a compound fracture" (whips out iPhone) "See? There's the tibia sticking out below the knee, and this next one..."

What, do you want to tell us that you would not take pictures of your kids' blood and gore skiing injuries? ;-)

These days, if there aren't any pictures, it didn't happen!

Say, that's a fine looking tibia your son has. Takes after his old man, doesn't he? Yep, nice tibia. You and the old ball and chain must be really proud of him.

And you wonder . . .

You sure he wasn't an orthopod???

He was just confirming that it was a tibia, and not a fibula --not to sound too humorous (or rad, fem, or ulnar) or anything.

If I ever get a compound fracture, I hope someone would take a picture for me.

It raises vacation photos to a whole new level.

Note to self: Never have lunch with surgeons immediately after surgery, or worse... proctologists!
