Did she reschedule?
Did I read that right? She called to apologize for a missed appointment FROM THREE YEARS AGO?
I don't even know what to say about that.
--HollyD
Yup. She did.
Maybe it'll be a new trend and you'll have to open another phoneline just to cope with the flood of apologies from patients. Doubtful though if the patients on your blog are anything like your standard patient list.
They aren't. Most patients are normal. But who wants to read about that?
What you see on any medical blog is definitely a skewered sample.
My best guess? She's on a 12-step program and is on the making amends one.
I think it's kind of sweet. If a bit creepy.
I think that's nice! Although I work in ED, where we tend to get far more rude and demanding patients than those who would actually take time out of their day to be pleasant. I'd appreciate the call! :P
I'm curious how you would look at a calendar and even remember that you missed the appointment three years ago.
It's part of her 12 steps.
I agree with Lurkette and thegooddrlaura. Kudos to Ms. Noshow.
Suddenly, all of the doctors' phone systems that simply don't accept messages make MUCH more sense....
Maybe she's in AA and doing that apologizing to everyone she's wronged part?
Oh, geez, Now that reminds me........
Do all the members of the SKEWED sample get skewered on your blog?
I'm surprised that no one pointed out she did this at 10:00 on a Sunday night! Evidently she still needs a bit of work with her impulse control. - Goes through her calendar from three years ago and thinks nothing of picking up the telephone at 10 PM on a Sunday night to call a doctor for something that happened three years ago.
Definitely with the others who say it's part of making amends.
I got an apology from someone I haven't seen in 20 some years for being rude to me at a playdate we had in 1977. We were six. I don't remember it at all. Uhh, no problem?
^ hahahahahahahahahaha @ ndenunz
Uhm. Thanks for the consideration? :')
Over zealous alcoholic in recovery making her amends...
Come to work for Uncle Sam, Grumpy. We have no-shows all the time.
My favorite: I can't come to get my drug test because I'm in too much pain, but I'll go to the pharmacy to get that refill.
Nice.
It's bizarre and funny. However, maybe you should have the appointments person call her and get her in so you can surreptitiously check for psychiatric illness.
I don't think she checked her calendAr at all. I think her conscience has been eating her up inside for 3 years and in order to get some sleep, she decided to get it off her chest.
WV: dedawhos - is that the name of a brothel run by a madam with a speech impediment? Or is it referring to the females with a clipboard who guard the doors at nightclubs?
Agree with the 12-stepper dx. My husband's best friend apologized to me (about 15 years after the fact) for calling me a whore when I gave my to-be husband a very innocent kiss at the end of our first date. In that case though, I actually did appreciate it because, I won't lie, it hurt my feelings.
HOWEVER, on the very off-chance that she is not 12-stepping, did you recommend that she see a behavioral therapist for her severe OCD??? ;-)
