Hey redacted school office, please give me the next winning powerball numbers, since according to your protocol, we're supposed to know of an emergency before it happens. Mamma needs a new pair of shoes!
It is part of the employee work policy at several workplaces. So, what's the meaning of emergency? Online dictionary, "serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action." So, yea, am expecting the unexpected every time I leave the house.
True story: after working at the new job on the evening shift almost a year, I called into work in the morning as I'd been vomiting early that the morning. Since I worked evenings, I wanted to warn someone to be be available since most people don't like to be called to work a late shift if someone calls in at the last moment. By 3 PM I was feeling a lot better, and I called back to say that I'd be able to make it. "Nope, we've got it covered. Don't bother." (Oh, by the way, you just lost your Christmas bonus by being absent, plus a day's work. Oh well.)
This blog is entirely for entertainment purposes. All posts about patients, or my everyday life, or anything else may be fictional, or be my experience, or were submitted by a reader, or any combination of the above. Factual statements may or may not be accurate. I could be making all this up. I may not even be a doctor. The only true statement on here is that I probably drink more Diet Coke than you do. A lot more.

Reminds me of the hospital administrator who wanted to know why we OB docs couldn't predict our emergencies.
