Running errands on Black Friday

Dr. Grumpy: "Oh... Look at that. The Okra Haus restaurant is closed. It looks like they're tearing it down."

Marie: "Oh, no! I hated that place!"

Dr. Grumpy: "Then I'd think you'd be happy it's gone."

Marie: "Yeah, but now I need to find another place to despise."

Haha that sort of reminds me of my sister (who has Down's). Every time they demolish a school she cries (nevermind it's old and probably really unsafe). "Did you ever go inside the school?" "...no..." "Then you have no attachment!"

Okra Haus? They served food from Southern Germany? Hassenpfeffer with grits? Schnitzel and dumplings?

This is off-point, but I am reminded of my introduction to "Black Friday." This was many years ago when I was still working clinically as a nurse. Over my 20-or-so clinical years, I often worked the holiday and, unless I specifically requested time off to travel to visit family, I NEVER had the traditional four-days off from work.

Then came my first job in the business world with a medical device company, and I found myself (hello, self) at home with four days off and no plans. I just thought that my company was very generous and, like my clinical counterparts, most people would have to work on Friday.

Thinking I was so very brilliant, I had the idea to get my Xmas shopping done, "when there would be no one at the malls." Yes, it's shocking that someone can live that long and be so out of touch with the real world.

I hope that you all had a lovely and relaxing T-Day and, if you ventured out, a successful Black Friday. Tricia

Well, Tricia, my friend-the-rabbi's father is an Orthodox (very religious) rabbi -- who called him last year and wanted to go to Costco on December 24th. When the son said, 'Dad, it's the day before Christmas,' his father said, 'how nice for the Christians ... I need to go to Costco' 80 years old and he had NO idea what that was going to be like!
