Overheard in the doctors lounge

Trauma surgeon: "How are you liking the rotation?"

Surgery resident: "It's all right, but a lot of it just seems to be people doing stupid shit."

Trauma surgeon: "Yeah, but if you take that away... it's not much of a job."

If people didn't do stupid shit, a lot of doctors, cops, EMTs and neurologist bloggers would be out of a job.

"people doing stupid shit"

Hey Doc, I thought you avoided political discussions on this blog?

You can't fix stupid! Job security for Doc G.

I'd say that "stupid shit" doesn't account for most neurology cases, though.

It is not much of a job:

You get to choose your job today.
Make your selection carefully as you will have a lifetime of it.

Will you be:

A) A Fast Food Restaurant Fry Cook
B) Trauma Surgeon
C) Tail Man on a City Sanitation Truck
D) Concrete Finisher in July

I have been A, C and D in my lifetime and as such I think your two docs need a serious ass kicking.

Don't forget reporters (journalists to you all!)

If people did not do stupid/insane/ICan'tBeliveTheyDidThat stuff, we would be out of jobs.

And the world would be that much more boring.

Meanwhile, the exact same conversation is taking place at YouTube headquarters...

Oh yeah

As stated by one of the attending docs on the cable show "Untold tales of the ER." (love the show), "I tell all of my ER residents to always remember four things...

1. blood goes round and round

2. you can't live without a liver

3. the kidney will outsmart you every single time and

4. you can't fix stupid."

Maybe I'll start covering shifts in the ER. Sounds like the same job, but with better weather.

Sounds like job security to me!

II:

C'mon, neuros get all sorts of stupid s&*t, like people snorting things and developing strange residual symptoms or strokes.

People getting drunk and fighting, then falling, has been most (was 50% one summer) of our rehab patients.

Friends don't let friends fall (or be pushed off) from docks, stairs or porches.

Same thing applies for IT.
