One of my Boston-area friends says he's stocked up for the Hurricane with vodka, rum, and pineapple juice -- everything you need to make a Hurricane.
My mom has one of those canes. It sucks. I'm waiting for the damn thing to break and send her ass over teakettle and leave her broken in little pieces. Why am I waiting for that? Well, because she won't listen to me, and it's all that's left to do... worry.
Hope everyone gets through the storm safely. Pretty scary.
Is this HurryCane waterproof?
Darned megastorms (or whatever new snappy name they're calling that Sandy).
At least tornadoes roll through and be done with it (for the most part).
Hope the tribe stays safe.
Stay safe ~~~
megastorm! It's title is Frankenstorm!
Yes, stay safe we are in the Philly area and expected a rough two days. I am still not believing that this thing is actually going to make a turn but we will see!
The grocery stores pay the news stations to over-sensationalize these storms. That way they make a huge profit on all the stuff you normally wouldn't buy. How's that for a conspiracy theory? ;)
Hey, Moose -- tell your Boston friend that I'll be right over. I work for the State - All non-essential people are to stay home. OK, I guess I am as non-essential as anyone. Good luck to everyone. Tricia
Y'all stay safe now!
If I were to hurry I'd rather not use that cane. So if you have to run from the hurricane don't rely on a HurryCane.
Take care - all of you!
Power outages ??? What are you talking about??? Did I miss something ???
I have family in Sandy's path. I've been through more than a few hurricanes and snowstorms, and this will be a good time to sit and read real books.
Of course this is after you have denuded all retail outlets of batteries, flashlights, lanterns, lantern oil, ice, food and of course BREAD! Charge those portable devices while you can!!
For MOST people this will be a non-event, a good excuse to kick back for a day or so. For others, it will be a disaster (Roofs off, flooding, etc.)
So everybody in Sandy's path, take care, heed the warnings you get and remember, this will all be over in a few hours, days, etc.
I believe in hurricane preparedness. I ate a pint of Ben & Jerry's so it wouldn't melt.
I live just outside of Boston and so far, we have a windy rain storm, but not a lot of rain. The rain we do have is going sideways. The storm is a lot worse toward the coast with the whole tidal effect.
It could be worse. We could be on the snow side of the storm. They are talking about feet of snow falling in Virginia, I believe.
My daughter is a surgical assistant to a group of dermatologic surgeons. She HAD to go in today. Got there and sat for two hours without power. She then texted me and said that the power was back on and she had to go and assist with an "emergency botox injection" followed by an equally emergent blephoroplasty. You gotta hope the lights don't go out again just as the incisons in to the skin around the eye is made. Tricia
Here in south Jersey, Atlantic City is already under water. So are many shore towns. Thankfully, I still have power. I don't know for how long!
AAAAck, I actually bought a Hurry Cane toward the end of the summer and really like it. Can walk at work with nothing, but use the cane, a rolling walker or a wheelchair depending on the distance. I only wish the Hurry Cane came in pink istead of only in black, drat.
Anyway, for me it works better than a regular cane, but maybe it's simply not for everyone and it is not as stable as a quad cane would be.
I don't work for the manufacturer either. As you were about the storm though. Rainy with bad wind here in NE Ohio. Ha, residual hot air from the politicians has turned cold and blustery.
Downed trees/power lines. What to expect = WEEKS, not DAYs without power. Just the dynamics of it.
When those impacted and crying on TV get a chance,
google the annual power outages in midwest during snow and ice storms. no power for 6-8 weeks.
After surviving the storm. It is time to get a drink. Head down to your local bar and order a new drink... a Sandy. Don't worry-it is just a watered down Manhattan.
