(patient stands up, and starts clearing off MY DESK, moving my can of Diet Coke, pens, mouse, etc.)
Dr. Grumpy: "Um, what are you doing?"
Mrs. Mom: "I'm clearing off your desk."
Dr. Grumpy: "Yes, but why?"
Mrs. Mom: "So I can change Jessica. She has a poopy diaper."

Can't she like, go the restroom?
YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope she had a baby with her! Otherwise, her symptoms are severe.
Oh, she definitely had the baby with her.
That reminds me of a sign a medical student friend of mine keeps in his bathroom: "Any crap revealed in this area is confidential, so please keep the noise levels down"
holy... well, holy crap.
when does your book come out, btw?
You've gotta be shittin' me.
Where did she put the poopy diaper ? LOL .
I've always believed that my grasp on reality was somewhat tenuous, then I read your stories. What are they putting in the water out there?
Oh............my.........God. Unbelievable. Almost as good as watching someone at a restaurant change their baby on the table and then continue eating (yep, we were one table away).
That's why you have a changing pad, so you can change the diaper on the floor!
It is not unusual in National Parks, amusement parks, zoos, etc. to see people stop at an unoccupied picnic table to change a baby's diaper. Some put down a blanket first, then dispose of the diaper in the trash. Some don't. The thought gives me shudders.
I think she needs a therapist(or psychiatrist), not a neurologist.
gross. like once a lady wished to change her baby at the pharmacy counter...I said NO...use the rest room and he huffed off like I was the one being out of line...geez...
Euwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!
What did you do???
I told her no, and to take her to the bathroom down the hall.
You are just making people (those patients you see ) just toooo darn comfortable in your office.
Good for you!!
ACK!!!!!
I'm beyond appalled anymore about what some people do with there children.
One of my of the biggest pet peeves, is seeing dirty diapers tossed on the ground in parking lots. I would surmise these individuals homes filled with dirty diapers lying around.
Whaaaat? That's just wrong on so many levels.
But I can see wanting to change the diaper quickly in the office while continuing to chat, on the floor perhaps, vs. losing time from a waited for appointment.
WOW
I worked in a grocery store pharmacy in a low income neighborhood. We were right next to the diaper aisle, and people were always ripping open the packages, changing their kid, and leaving the dirty diaper on the shelf.
And then there was the dad that refused to take his son out of our extremely small testing room, change him and return for us to complete the other half hour of testing. I fear he was planning on taking the child home so mom could do the change. Child ended up getting the abbreviated test and report noted that there was some "cooperation issues".
I have a few patients who clip their fingernails in our waiting room! Disgusting! All you hear is *clip**clip* Just GROSS!
Gasp!!!! That's so wrong!
and I thought she was incredibly rude when I read she was clearing your desk..... does she have some frontal lobe issues???
Depending upon the nature of your bathrooms, your office may have been an appealing alternative. I once looked after my then-boyfriend's baby nephew while he took his sister to the doctor. To use the restroom in the building, you had to use an official key, and the bathroom doors were very heavy and impossible to turn the key (which had to be turned as you were pulling open the door) while also pulling open the door! I didn't want to put the baby on the dirty floor in order to open the door and tried in vain for a quarter of an hour until someone came by and offered me assistance. What a nightmare! That baby came awfully close to being changed on the floor in the hallway!
amazing, people today with kids. They don't even ASK! they just assume the world is going to stop on its axis to accommodate them.
Um, eh, ah, nope. Can't come up with anything witty to say. In all fairness, I'm not exactly known for being witty but still...
Wow! I'm one of those people that are very relaxed around kids and don't have a problem with people taking their babies wherever they go. That being said, show some common decency! If your baby needs to be changed, excuse yourself and go find a bathroom! Or go out to your car. Sheesh, if push comes to shove, I would even say to change the baby on the floor. But not someone's desk! I would hate to eat in a restaurant where this woman had dined recently!
