Insanity

Due to the insanity of surviving a bowling party, night at Local Buffet, and the morning aftermath of a sleepover of 4th grade friends from the twins, I don't have much to write today.

A group of them decided to go out on the trampoline at 5:00 a.m., in pitch darkness and 23° F, and set off our burglar alarm in the process. The resultant cacophony of sirens, screaming, and barking did not help the migraine I had.

At the moment we are trying to cook pancakes. There is some sort of bizarre Wii game going on. And the dogs are still barking.

I need a nap today.

We will return to our regularly scheduled program tomorrow.

Sleepover=oxymoron..and you feel like a moron in the morning for the lack of sleep while you vow "never again".

You are braver than I am. I survived ONE (1) sleepover at our house. Then I decided I'd rather fork out money to have a party at the local ice skating rink.

The last at-the-house party my son went to, he got shot in the neck with a BB gun. I'm not sure any parent should be subjected to that many overstimulated kids high on sugar.

whiskey goes well with pancakes... or just syrup chasers

Dr. Grumpy, I had a house full of 4th graders last night as well for my daughter's birthday party sleepover. There is definitely a nap in my future too.
Neurologists get migraines too?

Am sitting in a congregational meeting. STILL don't envy you. BTW kahlua makes a nice substitute for pancake syrup...

Poor Doctor Grumpy, feel better soon.

If all else fails, gaffers tape is your friend. (It's more expensive than duct tape but doesn't leave that sticky residue behind.)

Also, Kahlua pancakes sound AWESOME. One of those horrifically bad for you pancake disasters with sweet cream cheese in the middle and a Kahlua based sauce on the outside? Gak. I think I just heard my arteries clogging.

I have to warn you, it just keeps getting better! My twin girls just turned 15 and each invited 4 friends to their "sleep"-over. Wii karaoke all night long, they consumed every last bread crumb in the house, and there's now a huge whole in the wall that nobody knows anything about. It's always double the fun with twins!!

A neurologist with a migraine is more than I can wrap my mind around. Hope you feel better soon.

@Emmy - I think you may be right. It's like dividing by zero. Hey, at least he knows what to take.

May your afternoon be migraine-free!

PS: If it makes you feel any better, we had a bowling party to go to this afternoon, and now that we're back, I discovered that my three year old had gotten into her goodie bag, and was sucking on three suckers AT THE SAME TIME. Oh, she won't be sugared up this afternoon or anything. *whimper*

A picture of a group of 4th graders at a sleep over is what is featured next to the word "migraine" in my dictionary.

I am so glad my kids are grown up. I absolutely hated sleep overs. Now that I think about it, I didn't really like them when I was a kid.

Hope you have some Treximet handy.

What is it about kids and their imperviousness to cold? I see idiod teenagers in flip flops and tank tops schlepping around the store when its in the mid 30's.? You are a neuro...cant you investigate these kids brains??(or is it questionable that they HAVE any?? LOL)

i take it this was your first "sleepover" ... and will be your last. unless the migraine comes back and in a moment of weakness marie asks if she can have a sleepover and while on meds you say "sure"
i love your blog ...

I always dreaded the sleepovers. It took everyone at least 48 hours to recover. I feel your pain.

Regarding imperviousness to cold from a previous comment. I am 54, and even during the recent ice storm I wore t-shirt and shorts everywhere but work. Saturday morning, I walked around a flea-market in that attire, with the temp in the lower 20s, and one dealer, heavily bundled up, asked me if I was insane. I told him that it was just a matter of "No brain, no pain." He chuckled, which is the usual response.
I was like that as a kid as well. Your kids sound as if they would be fun to hang around with if I was their age.

I just can't help but comment on the sugar = hyper behavior theme in the comments. Sugar has no effect on behavior - look it up folks. This is a common belief, but has been proven wrong. However, kids are often very excitable at events (parties) where a lot of sugary foods are served. Classic "correlation is not causation" example.

I am so glad I haven't had a migraine in over a year, AND that I don't have twins!

From one migraineur to another, deepest sympathy.
