Well, that's what he told his Imam or rabbi. Jokes aside, how do faiths that frown on pork square porcine heart valves, etc.? I am assuming that the preservation of life takes precedence.
I think that somebody who was Jewish and really observant would probably opt for a mechanical valve. And in a lot of cases, those can be inserted non-surgically now.
Bovine valves are also available for those who have religious issues with porcine valves. Mechanical heart valves are noisy and a recent study showed that 25% of those interviewed said it disturbed their sleep.
Years ago I visited an older friend in thee hospital's cardiac unit and asked about his diagnosis. John replied: "I've been having pai. The doctor says it's vagina."
This blog is entirely for entertainment purposes. All posts about patients, or my everyday life, or anything else may be fictional, or be my experience, or were submitted by a reader, or any combination of the above. Factual statements may or may not be accurate. I could be making all this up. I may not even be a doctor. The only true statement on here is that I probably drink more Diet Coke than you do. A lot more.
