"I guess that's a failing grade, huh?"

I'd like to thank my reader Toni for sending this in.

A lady in Bellevue, Washington, was arrested after she (allegedly) attacked another woman while they were attending an anger management class.

19-year-old Faribah Maradiaga "blew up out of control", whipped out a knife, stabbed the classmate multiple times in the arm and shoulder, and threatened to kill her family. She's been charged with 2nd degree assault.

In my opinion this highlights the limited effectiveness of court mandated therapies of any sort. Therapy does not work against a person's desires; it only works when the person in question makes the effort to take the tools and insights provided and applies them to their own life. Which is damned hard work.

Without that effort on the part of the person receiving the treatment, it's just a waste of time, effort, and money.

It still may be more economical to try it, rather than imposing a prison sentence, but it's far from being a sure thing, or even good odds for an improved temperament.

Was the facilitator out of the room at the time? Whoa, big fail now that person is going to have to repeat the class.
I hope they have a release form, "This class may cause others to go berserk and attempt to kill you." Sign up at your own risk.

"Anger Management Classes," like so much of pop psych, have been repeatedly discredited.

Looks like we have just a little more data now.

I work at BC where the class was being taught, and was there when the police came. The stabbee had minor injuries, so one can appreciate the humor. Believe me, there is no place more "white bread," than North Campus BC, so it's pretty funny.

I decided it's a bad idea to take a knife to a court mandated anger management class.

Ah yes, Anger Management classes. Another complete waste of time and energy. I once had a client who picked up her 6 week certificate of completion at Anger Management and went home and stabbed her husband. Job well done sweetie.

If they are going to an Anger Mgmt class, shouldn't they also get a mood stabilizing drug? Maybe lithium or something? Shouldn't they even just try it for 8 weeks?
