Back when my kids were younger, they loved the Toy Story stuff. Including the Evil Emperor Zurg:
So, it's no surprise that Frank had to have the Zurg Blaster gun, which fired green ping-pong balls.
Anyway, they're beyond that now, so recently we were getting together some old toys to donate to charity. On the side of the Zurg Blaster, I noticed this:
How awesome is that?
If you don't get it... I feel sorry for you.
This is Spinal Tap
ReplyDeleteLove it! We've referenced this so many times over the years.
ReplyDeleteloved This Is Spinal Tap!
ReplyDeleteThat's so great!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever try and explain to someone why this is so flippin' funny? If they don't get it right away, they will never get it. The best you can hope for is a polite chuckle. I feel so sorry for them. Hey, maybe we should start a charity for them? Offer Humor Workshops?
ReplyDeleteBut you have to say it with an accent. And that bewildered tone. "But ours goes to 11."
ReplyDeletePlease refer to Bizzaro for his take on the same topic (bonus - it's medical too): http://bizarrocomics.com/files/2014/06/bz-panel-06-27-14.jpg
ReplyDeleteLick my love pump.
ReplyDeleteNigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
ReplyDeleteMarty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
I don't get it. Commence pitying me.
ReplyDeleteI just watched Spinal Tap two nights ago and do not remember that scene. Weird.
ReplyDeleteI have always been slightly disappointed that in the Princess Bride, in the scene in the Pit of Despair, The Machine does not go to eleven. It is perhaps the only serious flaw in the movie, and TPB and Spinal Tap are definitely both on my Top Ten Movies Ever And if You Don't Like Them We Will Never Understand One Another list.
ReplyDeleteDH and I would have howled with laughter if we'd had that toy in our house.
I would buy that toy, just because it goes to 11.
