While I generally don't promote artists other than myself (trust me, medicine is an art more than a science) sometimes I simply MUST do so.
Witness, please, this truly remarkable cop-cam performance by Mr. Robert Wilkinson, a Canadian gentleman. In an attempt to convince a police officer that he was not inebriated, Mr. Wilkinson did what any sober person would do: belt out a complete a cappella rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (okay, so he briefly used the windows as drums, but it was quick) in the squad car.
It's worth watching the entire thing. I promise.
One night in medical school, after a round of tests, I performed a stirring rendition of "My Way" at a now-defunct karaoke bar. Afterwards my roommate Enzyme commented, "Dude, you can't carry a tune worth shit. But boy, can you sing." Mr. Wilkinson demonstrates that statement better than I ever could.
Thank you, Tanya!
Drunk? I think not. He got all the words right, something I can't do sober. Plus his passion! Plus the ending--he found a way to add RCMP in rhyme! Nope, not drunk. Musical genius instead.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteSure hope the judge has a sense of humor when they play this in court. Officer Cynical would you have broke out in song with him?
ReplyDeleteI would turn up the AM talk (Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, etc.) really loud and let him compete with that. Oh, and he'd definitely be in cuffs BEFORE he got in my back seat - not after.
ReplyDeleteI can haz lawyer?
ReplyDeleteI used to play in a bluegrass band. I always performed strictly as an instrumentalist - always refusing to sing. My bandmates finally shamed me into singing lead one night, and afterwards a friend came up to me and said, "Man, you can barely talk right but you sure can sing". I've never known how to take that.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah. Saw it yesterday and my firefighter paramedic husband and I loved it. My Er nurse daughter said she gets enough of that at work. MY NICU parents have come in tipsy but never quite that interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove how he added "even the RCMP"!
ReplyDelete"Physical violence is the *least* of my priorities."
ReplyDeleteOh man! That singing worried my doggies but I actually enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteWow, I think I just got a great idea for a West End musical...
ReplyDeleteKudos to the cop! He parked at about the 2:45 mark, but let him finish his song!
ReplyDeleteI think it's crazy they let him finish for 5 min after they arrived. Cause you know something dreadful will happen if you stop Bohemian Rhapsody before its done. And if you don't forward this email.
ReplyDeletePhysical violence is the least of his priorities.... Number 1 priority? Rockin' Out!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in knowing what happened in the missing hour! I noticed that on the time stamp.
ReplyDeleteLove his total calm at the end. "Are you going to have to cuff me?" Totally reasonable and coherent. :D
ReplyDeleteWouldn't "I Want to Break Free" be more appropriate?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Made me grin like an idiot :)
ReplyDeleteI miss Freddie.
ReplyDeleteMust have been in beautiful downtown Edson, Alberta.
ReplyDeleteWhat memories the tourists will have seeing him on the street?
Viral alleged criminal marketing...who'd a thought!
Stunning performance. Loads of passion. Truly, even his singing got better with time... on the other hand its a stunning and great piece of music
ReplyDeleteAnd I miss Freddy, too *sniff*
saw this in the news too....we need to know what he was charged with....he does have quite a good memory, and the "Let me go; no, I will not let you go" part is rather appropos.
ReplyDeleteThis is just what Canadians do. True story... last year, we were in a strip cl... er... "bar"... and started singing this song between acts. Within a few minutes, the entire CLUB was singing this song.
ReplyDeleteIncluding the bartenders.
Like I said, Canada is a weird place.
