Doctors behaving badly

Mary interrupts me with a patient. A doctor who doesn't refer to me is on the phone, and says it's urgent he talk to me.

Dr. Grumpy: "This is Dr. Grumpy."

Dr. Dislike: "Hi, does Fukitol interact with Noshakes?"

Dr. Grumpy: "Is one of my patients over there?"

Dr. Dislike: "No, I just want to know for someone I'm seeing tomorrow."

Dr. Grumpy: "You had me interrupted with a patient to ask me a simple drug question?"

Dr. Dislike: "I'm very busy. I don't have time for this. Answer the question!"

Dr. Grumpy: "Look it up on ePocrates." (hangs up)

  2. He should call a pharmacist, the drug experts. I think TAP or DrugMonkey would have been happy to answer that question for him and

  3. I've had other computer techs call in he middle of the night for crap that either a man page [built in docs for a lot of Unix/Linux/OS X tools] or ten seconds with Google would have solved. The Let me Google that for you site is a nice way drive home the point.

  5. This is assuming that MD involved has ePocrates.

I am doubting that. Somehow I suspect the phone was his/her level of incompetence.

But at least the MD knew to ask a Yak herder.

  9. And now that you know his name, you can have him paged at all hours, to ask random shit. Seriously, questions like "what time is it?" at 3 AM are gold.

  10. So glad to know that you can identify the reason for your name.. Ive been the meat in the sandwich holding a phone to the surgeons ear during an operation for silly stuff like that.. and everyone suffers afterwards... How is Mary?????

  11. SMHDVM the what time is it question works slightly better if they are in a differing time zone. Then, if you feel like it you can get into an argument. Same time zone start talking about what time it is UCT (which is what time most server's hardware clock is set to.) After a while the point settles in between both of their functioning brain cells.

Dr. Grumpy, you and your fellow neurologist need to come up with a "really working" brain cell count test and revoke cell phone use for anyone scoring under, 10 or so.

Approval word 'monic'. Given that I've just come of a manic stage, seem legit.

  12. I guarantee the pharmacist will have to run an interaction check there are too many drugs to know that off the top of your head...even if we know the answer we check it OCD like before hand just incase.

What a jerk doesn't he have a PDR or something?

  13. Seriously. Ask a pharmacist. It's our job. (Most of us don't rely on the PDR or the ePocrates if we have a working version of Micromedex or LexiComp) or an intern.
