Come on over, Mom, we're having a party!

I was doing some medical education credits online this morning, and came across this question. I just LOVE the 4th answer.

  3. Wow, there are so many things I could say about this. I'm sure it all went through your mind already though.

  4. *sigh* And yet so many of us are forced to do just that because we don't have health insurance--although antibiotics are a lot more treasured than pain meds.

  5. What does "Singing Foo" mean?

  6. Hildy- Long story. Inside joke between Annie and I, going back many years. I'll tell it someday.

You're actually the first person who asked about it.

  7. As I peruse my CME, I am often left with only one question of my own:

    Who writes these ridiculous questions?

Iv'e decided it is some computer automaton that just takes words from the article and sticks in negatives or changes negatives to positives. That's really the only possible explanation for a question like this:

T/F: The Mediterranean diet has not been shown to increase LDLs in non-diabetics when not taking oral hypoglycemics and not on OCs, but did reduce HDLs in non-white males who did not have minimal risk factors for non-coronary events.

Or something like that. I got tired of trying to unpack it and just said F (and was wrong). I always have a few questions to give, anyway.

  9. Ha ha ha!

My Grandy has fibromyalgia and asked her doctor to check a pain in her shoulder blade. He told her that it was perceived pain but didn't have an actual cause, however he would go ahead and write her an oxy script for it.

She tells me, "Well, I don't like those pain meds, but I think I'll have it filled to keep around the house." Then I said, "Grandy, no, they call that crap Hillbilly Heroin. It's not a script you keep around for a tooth ache."

    =)

  10. Best part is, that's actually what a lot of people do.

  11. "So tell me, how do you keep little Billy so quiet and well-behaved?"

(Re: "singing foo"- is that a Joe Bob Briggs reference?)

  12. There was a question on the Kansas driver's test that was something like this:

What should you do when you enter a school zone?

One of the "answers" was: Wave at all of the kids.

I always wanted to check this answer just for fun, but you're only allowed to make 3 mistakes and still get your license, so I didn't, just in case!

  13. "although antibiotics are a lot more treasured than pain meds."

Oh, how little yee knows about this one. I don't think there is much, if any, black market for antibiotics and they certainly are not selling for $1 per milligram on the streets. Oxy on the other hand...

  15. Sad thing is, you know some doctor somewhere actually chose that for their answer.

  16. None of the above.
Any self respecting patient knows to SELL their Oxycontin. Sheesh.

Was just informed that the going rate for oxy in Washington state was $50/pill. The down side is if you sell to an undercover narcotics agent the jail time is 7 months. My pt didn't mind. He said he had a warm bed, 3 meals prepared for him, "free" medical care and a surplus of checker players. Better than he could do on his SSI living on his own.

  17. Well, if as a kid you are continuously reminded by your good parents that you should not be stingy and always share your toys and sweets with others, ...Perhaps you and Mrs G should remember to add "but not medicines/drugs or chewing gum" while you are still able to program your tribe's brains. But being the little Grumpies, I'm sure lots of common sense is a given. By the way, do you think common sense is inherited or more environmentally driven?

WV: droves. Yes, questions like that also sometimes droves me mad!
