This magazine was sent (unsolicited) to my office recently.
In 12 years I've taken care of a lot of migraine patients. And NONE of them looked this happy about their headaches...
When someone comes into my office with that kind of look, I generally DON'T assume they need a migraine medicine. Haldol (an antipsychotic), perhaps, but not a migraine drug.
She actually has a sort of insane look in those eyes.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Hence, the Haldol.
ReplyDeleteI actually felt like the woman in the picture looks when my doctor gave me Maxalt for my migraines. I was having 2-3 a week and the Imitrex side effects were definitely a case of "the cure" being "worse than the disease".
ReplyDeleteShe has that look as if she's thinking, "If you don't fix my migraines, I may just snap and kill you, Dr. Grumpy."
ReplyDeletePerhaps this is actually what the magazine was going for?
I think it's to induce migranes - my head hurts when I look directly into those eyes.
ReplyDeleteThat is, however, what I look like when I think that I no longer have them.
ReplyDeleteShe does look a little crazy. Maybe she's just into the pain.
ReplyDeleteObviously the medical marijuana you prescribed her is working.
ReplyDelete"Just a couple more minutes, and you'll never have migraines again. Or any other kind of pain. Ever. Heh heh heh..."
ReplyDeleteYeah, those eyes are definitely not friendly. AdvertisingFAIL.
ReplyDeleteYup, reminds me of the photo of Goldie Hawn on the front cover of AARP magazine a while back - really, do they think we don't know the photo is airbrushed and that she's been prepared by a stylist and perhaps a surgeon or two...
ReplyDelete(and no, I do NOT subscribe - it was in an MD waiting room!!)
Maybe she had Botox injections, and is part of the minority for whom they work.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she had to smile for the pose, but actually has a migraine from the bright lights.
RSDS
A little medical mj and lots of topamax will cure migraines. I haven't had one since 2001!
ReplyDeleteAnd medical mj takes care of MS spasms a whole lot better than icky, icky baclofen or zanaflex. *barf*
As for her crazed look...maybe she just found out she was put on Medicaid. =) =) =)
same photo was on the cover of Proctology Today. go figure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photographer.....caught her in the midst of headspinning (AEB The Exorcist!)
ReplyDeleteThat smile does not say "I'm so happy my migraine is cured!" That smile says "I'm going to pick up an axe and kill everyone in this room!"
ReplyDeleteHopalong Ginsberg
It has been my experience that this expression appears on a woman's face shortly after hearing the phrase "I do".
ReplyDeleteOkay, I started getting a migraine just looking at this. Must take Imitrex NOW.
ReplyDeleteThant's the fake smile of a person with a migraine who is out of sick days. She doesn't want anyone making any loud noises or sudden moves.
ReplyDeleteWhen I close my eyes I see her face so now I can't even sleep. Last time I read your blog before bed, sir.
ReplyDeleteDoes a frontal lobotomy cure migraines?
