It is also amazing how many people are shocked to learn that they are hollow from mouth to anus. (Granted, there are a few sphincters in between, but they do open.)
I went to a breastfeeding class when I was pregnant with my first son, and I walked out with a tremendous sense of relief . . . not for myself, because it didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know, but on behalf of all the other women in there, who appeared to not ever have actually met their own breasts. It is amazing that so many people inhabit bodies about which they know so frighteningly little.
People with this sort of ignorance are why I have had ultrasound techs ask me more than once if I "knew which hole" was which in that general vicinity. On both occasions I laughed, because I knew that sort of basic anatomy by the time I was about six! It never ceases to amaze me how little some people know about the bodies they inhabit 24/7...
Maybe the patient has a fistula??
ReplyDeletehaha
Maybe the fistula is between the head and the colon?
ReplyDeleteWhy did the patient bring this problem to a neurologist?
ReplyDeleteWonder what he/she is telling the urologist...
They wanted a second opinion after visiting doctor pissy?

I was alarmed one recent morning when I saw my urine was bright red...then I remembered the beets the night before:)
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how many patients of mine have no idea how many holes they have down there.
ReplyDeletedamn. you'd think they'd look up the term colon in the dictionary before the appointment. if they only knew how many parts we really have!

ReplyDeleteMarco: When you think about it, it's no wonder so many heads tumble down and end up in the general area of the *cough* rectum.
