Alright, my kids school district sent a flyer home with them tonight.
They're having a Thanksgiving lunch next week, and are inviting parents to join their kids at it. The flyer included the following:
"Please join you child during they're regular lunch schedule"
"Includes choice of desert" (Sonoran? Sahara? Gobi?)
"Sliced turkey brest"
I could pass on the desert - I'm watching my wait.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd sure love to visit ”Brest”
I thought Brest was in France, not Turkey.
ReplyDeleteWell, that explains the horrible grammar prevalent in today's society. *sigh*

P.S. Here's hoping there's no mistakes here >.<
This newsletter brought to you by Tarzan and Jane's grammar and spell checker.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'll take the Gobi desert please?
Enjoi you're lunch.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you are not paying for private school spelling education!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad I can't even stand it.
ReplyDeleteHope they cook better than they spell.
That looks familiar - I love getting newsletters from the school with "where it's at" and "those ones" and improper punctuation. I weep for the future of grammar!
ReplyDeleteHopefully not written by the English teacher.
ReplyDeleteOne word: Homeschooling.
ReplyDeleteSounds like they could of done a better job proofreading.
ReplyDelete(Man, it hurt to write that!)
I kid you not, my child's reading log has gross misspellings that include recIeve and my favorite, reaOding.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one. The other day I was working at the book fair at my youngest child's school. The woman in charge (OK, she's just a mom, not a teacher or anything) had the worst grammar. I just wanted to slap her! She would say stuff like "I haven't ate since 6:00 last night." and "I had that list all wrote up." And we wonder why our kids can't learn nothin'!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're investing so much in your children's food because they're obviously not investing it in their eduction!
ReplyDeletev.w.: nonsi - the plural of nonsense?
I'll take the Sahara. This reminds me of one ER provider I work with who writes "return to ER if symptoms are worst". At least she's not responsible for educating our kids!
ReplyDeleteAny way you can change schools?
ReplyDeleteJo (in Switzerland)
WOW! And they wonder why our children can't read or write? Or why the United States ranks so low education-wise worldwide.
ReplyDeletePLEASE GOD....let us hope it was an office worker and NOT a teacher that wrote it!
Omg, even I noticed the mistakes immediately and English is only my third language...
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they have the kids type up these flyers?
ReplyDeleteWould save them money, too.
There is really NO excuse for this from a school! Next time they should have the first grade teacher proofread it!
ReplyDeleteThat would drive me INSANE!!!!! FROM A SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSweet baby Jesus........
ReplyDeleteThat is a major pet peeve of mine and I would bring it to the attention of the principal. There is no excuse for this coming from a school. I'm sure a volunteer wrote it up, but at the very very least, s/he should not be responsible for future notices.

Didn't you mean "could have"?
Have the kids correct the errors
ReplyDeleteand turn the corrected flyers
in for extra credit.
I'm thinking the text messaging is eventually going to lead to a national Go Esperanto! campaign, (not an influx of secretarial workers who are already proficient in dictation--though their machines probably have Spellcheck.) United for Esperanto! (right after bringing our boys home, the health reform goes through, and straightening out bank and investment regulations, and the rest of the country!)
ReplyDelete(Word verification 'lemings' --shouldn't it be 'lemmings')
"...words are slippery and thought is viscous.” Henry Adams
ReplyDeleteEven Henry would roll over in his grave seeing the extent to which his words ring true.
Reminds of the opening lines of "A tale of two cities, the deli version":
ReplyDeleteIt was breast of times, it was the wurst of times.
Of course for the vets out there did you see case report where part of one cats tail was used for a transplant the title was:
A tail of two kitties.
I am done now...
Yes, and these are the people who are teaching your children.
ReplyDeleteKinda makes your day, doesn't it?
Why don't you do your children a favor and send that flyer back to the principle with the corrections written on it? Someone needs to point that out to them...why not a prominent doctor?
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm not prominent, and I'm really a yak herder.
ReplyDeleteI toured a moderately expensive private school this past weekend, and noticed one of the words written on a large piece of paper hanging on the wall in the first grade classroom was misspelled... How do the kids stand a chance? I don't think I will be sending my kindergarten there when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteDarn, that desert thinkg could make you thristy....
ReplyDeleteCareful, got my eldest daughter in a lotta trouble one year when I sent a paper of hers BACK to the teacher - on which I corrected all the teacher's misspellings and grammar mistakes - in bright red...
