Neither the first nor will it be the last...

Dr. Grumpy: "Are you allergic to any medications?"

Mr. Unsure: "A pill once gave me a rash."

Dr. Grumpy: "Do you remember what it was called?"

Mr. Unsure: "Nope. Can you name some medicines? I'll tell you if it sounds familiar."

  2. Dr Grumpy, I really hope you specialize in memory disorders and not other neurological conditions - you seem to have more than your share.

  4. "There are white pills, yellow pills... Sometimes even pink and blue ones... Some are big. Some are small. They come in different shapes too. Any of that sound familiar?"

  5. Sounds like a number of the patients I see come through the door of my pharmacy.

I also recently got one who was at her neurologist's office because she had been "switched" from carbamazepine (100mg chews) to epitol (teva's 200mg generic). She complained of being dizzy, unable to see or walk. Go figure the MD was out of the office at the hospital but the nurse or MA decided that epitol was brand and not a generic because that's what google said. She didn't seem to believe that tegretol was the brand or that maybe the issue was that the patient had her dose jumped from 200mg twice daily (400mg TDD) to 400mg three times a day (1200mg TDD). Maybe it was the fact that the dose was tripled has something to do with the symptoms and not necessarily the switch from chew tabs to regular tabs.
