I'll bite - what is the sharp device that one needs to be wary of in a hospital toilet? I've installed/uninstalled a couple of toilets at home and I'm pretty sure that whatever it is, it's not a standard feature of your basic $100 porcelain john from Home Depot.
fiberman, to be sure this is going to require some hands on research, but I think it is the thing that keeps the snakes from coming up from the sewers to get you when you are sitting. Very common occurrence.
@Packer...Ewww! It's taken me years to get over the X Files Fluke Boy episode, and you just HAVE to bring up things coming up out of the toilet. I may never go to the toilet at night again.
"So don't think you can skip out on your hospital bill by excusing yourself to use the bathroom, flushing yourself down the toilet, and escaping into the sewers. We're onto that trick, and it doesn't work anymore."
Just thought I'd let tbunni know that I have seen lights that go inside your toilet bowl advertised on the internet. I think they even come in different colors. Never ceases to amaze me what things they come up with! Me I just have a night light in my bathroom.
OK, it is funny, but does the sharp surface serve a useful purpose (except for reducing the incidence of snakes and flukes (sorry tbunni))in the commode?
Just wondering, as I recall fishing out things like underpants and hot wheels the male offspring would try to flush.
I really would like to know. Will remember for three minutes, but would like to know.
I'm led to understand that most warning signs are the result of someone doing something foolish, eg. "Do not attempt to stop a running chainsaw with your genitals." So I can't help wondering what caused this sign to be posted?
"Traptex was developed to address this problem at the source. Each Traptex Guard features small, laser-cut hooks to catch cloths and wipes before they pass into the pipe, while allowing solid waste and toilet paper through. When wipes are caught, they can be safely removed with a Traptex Wipe Retriever by staff or housekeeping, allowing them to correct the problem and reinforce good behavior without a call to Plumbing or Maintenance."
probably idiots who scrub toilets with their hands. have learned some truly disgusting things about how people think it's appropriate to clean over the years.
I guess I will have to remember the anguish of the pharmacy school graduation gift of a fancy-schmancy programmable calculator that fell out of my pocket...
All those 'personal hygiene' wipes that are marketed as 'disposable' are NOT...and can clog plumbing systems and septic tanks and water treatment facilities...so the "Traptex" device mentioned above sounds credible. And the wide range of behavior of people in public toilets is....beyond description.
Well ! And I thought I had seen everything ! Question: how do you clean the ...uh ... effluvia from the trap? I would imagine SOME intestinal waste gets caught ... ewwww .... forget I asked ...
You probably won't want to use the cell phone again anyways.
ReplyDeleteLook, some people are just going to have to choose between their iPhones and their hands.
ReplyDeleteIs it still okay to put your hand in the urinal? Asking for a friend.
ReplyDeleteSo now, if I want to wash my hands after going to the bathroom, I have to go all the way to the sink? That's such a pain.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be the basis of a really hilarious scene in "Trainspotting 2."
ReplyDeleteGrumpy, lucky that you spotted the sign first.
ReplyDeletePersonally I have never needed to test the temperature of the water with my hand.
Thanks for the chuckles.

ReplyDeleteIn an effort to save money, hospitals are now using commodes as sharps containers.

ReplyDeleteThese devices keep people from flushing paper towels and wipes down hospital toilets.
ReplyDeleteI'm just amused that the Spanish for "toilet" is "excusado." Perfect!
ReplyDeleteBut..how can I get my lortab back?
ReplyDeleteI found this - it reinforces good behavior!

ReplyDelete"Look, if I drop my phone in the hospital toilet, I'm fishing it out no matter what. If I can't check WebMD while I'm in the OR, I can't operate."
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anonymous.

ReplyDeleteSo THAT explains why the TSA wouldn't let me bring that toilet onto the plane!
ReplyDeleteLatrina dentata.
