Annie's desk

Annie: "Dr. Grumpy's office, this is Annie."

Mr. Blood: "Hi, I have a question about the labs Dr. Grumpy ordered."

Annie: "Sure, what's up?"

Mr. Blood: "It says here the labs are fasting."

Annie: "Yeah, that's standard for what he wants done."

Mr. Blood: "Okay, but am I the one who has to be fasting? Or is it the tech who draws them?"

  2. "Actually, everybody involved has to fast, or the labs won't come out right."

  3. Hey, give him credit for checking, instead of assuming.

  5. I am amazed that some people manage to live through any given day... given the hazards they must negotiate on the limited brain power they possess.

  6. "Does it count if I have a bite of food in my mouth while the blood is being drawn but I don't swallow until it's finished?"

  7. "Both. Obamacare requires both providers and patients to observe Ramadan."

And as ronstew noted, at least he asked.

  9. maybe HE has been watching too many trendy vampire movies, and related lab techs being called "vampires"?

  10. My problem is when they think that since they didn't eat a full meal, only had coffee or juice, or piece of fruit, they are still fasting.

  11. I find it amazing that someone could have gotten to the age to be asking such a question without already knowing the answer.

  12. Yes, YOU have to stop shoving food into your mouth long enough for our tech to draw blood, otherwise, Medicare/Medicaid won't pay for the draw.

  14. So my adult sister, who has Down Syndrome, had a blood test that showed a slight polycythemia. My mother and older sister, both medical practitioners, made my poor sister go through extensive testing for Sleep Apnea, which she does not have. Eventually I, a humble veterinarian, pointed out that polycythemia vera is extremely rare and most apparent cases are slight dehydration. 'She is never dehydrated. She drinks hot chocolate every morning.' sniffed my mother. 'Was it a fasting blood test?' "Yes of course.' 'So she didn't have any hot chocolate that morning, then?' ....crickets...

  15. Anyone who can ask that question is trying to get through life with only magical thinking.

    "And they vote..."

Worse - that could be someone they voted into office.

  16. I believe that question deserves a
follow up question: Would you like the tech to be fasting or do you prefer to fast alone?

So wadda you think?
