I had a nice elderly couple in. She had mild-moderate dementia, and I was looking over her previous test results.
Dr. Grumpy: "It looks like your internist did a pretty decent work-up. Unfortunately, I have to agree with him that she has Alzheimer's disease."
Mr. Amyloid: "Yeah, that's what her daughter and I both figured. What about..."
Lady Amyloid: "We just got married!"
Dr. Grumpy: "Really?"
Mr. Amyloid: "Yep. We've been together for 10 years, but got married last week."
Dr. Grumpy: "Congratulations!"
Mr. Amyloid: "We weren't ever planning on it, but after Dr. Intern told us the news I decided we should while she still knew how much I love her."
After 15 years in this job, it takes a lot to get to me. That did.
Congrats to both of them . :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat's this water in my eye for...
ReplyDeleteSweet! (sniff)
ReplyDeleteGoose Bumps!
ReplyDeleteLovely. I would love some of that.
ReplyDeleteDon't fool yourself, Doc. It was probably his only way to keep her money from the daughter. She's demented, so how's she going to know?
ReplyDeleteOHHHHH, that one went straight in the Heart,Dr.G....
ReplyDeleteThat one really got to me. I'm all weepy here...
ReplyDeleteI think a little bee just stung my eye or something.
ReplyDeleteDurned allergies are making my eyes water!!
ReplyDeletesadly, my first thought was similar to sues- her ss check must be bigger than his and when she passes away he could draw the bigger check. How have I become so jaded..Sad
ReplyDeleteOne of the nicest posts I've seen.
ReplyDeleteThis is the stuff that brings me back to work. Every day.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Oh geez . . .*sniffles*
ReplyDeleteI love sweet elderly couples!
ReplyDeleteWhy I do geriatrics. Period.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice, but I am jaded after years of working with patients.
ReplyDeleteI hope she really married (who gets the sickness and health part) a nice person instead of someone who's looking to bump up his Social Security (or whatever he gets).
You can hope...
Wow you folks are cynical.
ReplyDeleteIf they've been together for ten years without getting married, I'd bet that marriage is *not* financially advantageous. It frequently isn't for older people who meet late in life.
I wish them happiness, and love, and that whatever time they have left together is enriched by their marriage.
And really, even if it does bump up his social security (which is doubtful since women traditionally still make less than men)what does it matter? If I had a loved one that I could provide for better by marrying them, well that's love too. Very sweet story.
ReplyDeletePoor besotted fella. Those of us already in this lovingly padded ditch see the love here, and our eyes are watering, too.
