Those were the days

  1. I could use some of that.

You know doc, your patients could be a lot happier if you prescribed weed, alcohol and morphine for everything.

Demented? On new alcohol-weed-morphine, noone can tell the difference?

Seizures stop you driving? - You can't drive when you take this, but you won't care.

Migrains? You'll be feeling no pain when you take alcohol-weed-morphine, our new universal treatment.

  4. Did you know that THC is currently being looked at as a treatment for asthma because it dilates bronchioles? One of my students showed me the studies a few years ago. This "cough syrup" might have actually been onto something...

    Chloroform...I scratch my head.

  5. Well thank goodness there is less than one percent alcohol. Otherwise it might be intoxicating!

  6. Zounds!!! I've had a few patients I'd love to have been able to give that to!

  8. Years ago, I remember seeing chloroform as an ingredient in OTC cough syrup. It was listed as an "expectorant".

  9. Just for geek's sake: The label uses old apothecary terms. "m" is for minim which is a fluid measurement: 60 minims = 1 fluiddram = 1/8 fluid ounce. "gr" is for grain and used for solids: 1 gr = 64.8 mg.

Bonus question: What drugs are still produced in terms of grains, not milligrams?

Answer: Armour Thyroid (and generics) and phenobarbital.

  11. With alcohol, weed, chloroform and morphine, I do wonder what the other "skillfully combined" might be?

  12. Hey, Texas Pharmacy Chica, I take Armour Thyroid. Was on Synthroid for close to 20 years and they just recently switched me to Armour. Armour has an interesting taste and it doesn't taste like bacon. Sigh. I was amused recently when I happened upon a forum fill of people talking about natural medications. Several people who said they were vegans had switched to Armour Thyroid. I guess they don't realize that it's made from pork!

ANYWAY, last year I had pneumonia and I was given cough syrup with codeine. It was horrible...the codeine did nothing but make me mad and I still had the damn cough! I think I would have much preferred this stuff!

  13. Somehow I misread 'skillfully' as 'sinfully'. Seems apropos somehow.

  16. WOW!!! The ONLY time I ever used Mary J was to try and ease Migraine pain; but it backfired big time!!! I had a heck of a worse one when I woke up. UGH! I am also allergic to Morphine, so I guess this would be a deadly cocktail for me. UGH!

  19. I am so glad I laid in a lifetime supply before the crackdown. But for those who did not have that foresight, I am glad they give you the recipe right on the label. Happy Mixology.
