Annie's Desk, November 28, 2011

Annie: "Dr. Grumpy's office, this is Annie."

Mrs. Worried: "Hello, um, my husband sees Dr. Grumpy."

Annie: "Yes?"

Mrs. Worried: "Anyway, on Thanksgiving, after dinner, he had slurred speech, and was dragging his left leg. It hasn't gotten better yet."

Annie: "That was 4 days ago. Did you go to the hospital?"

Mrs. Worried: "No, it was, you know, a holiday weekend, and I didn't want to bother the doctor. He works hard enough."

Annie: "Okay, let me check with Dr. Grumpy, but it sounds like you're going to need to go to ER."

Mrs. Worried: "There were also some Black Friday deals I didn't want to miss."

  1. it's just a stroke.. lots of people have one, so why even bother? it would suck not to get that 5 dollar tv from walmart..

  2. Some people...while it's not a stroke, I did get chastized for not bringing in my 4 year old when she had a fever...once I did finally take her in, it was 104.5 and turns out she had scarlet fever. Ooops. Also appears that she hasn't been having sinus drainage for the past 5 years, but probably tonsil infections. Ooops.
But signs of a stroke? We have commercials on TV telling us about stroke and when to see the doctor!
P.S. I wish you used labels on your posts so I could easily find an old one I'm looking for (how studies end up with titles in mainstream media, that don't reflect the real scope of the study, it's just to sell the newspaper).

  4. The money she spent qualified her for a prescription discount on plavix. So...win/win.

  5. I was sort of on her side until she threw in the Black Friday business. Ouch. How is Mr. Worried, Dr. Grumpy?

  7. Because nothing says I love you like caring more about getting a 5 dollar TV at Wal-mart than your husband's health. *face palm* I think she missed that whole "in sickness" part of the marriage ceremony. lol. I feel bad for that guy.
