I think you have it wrong... it wasn't the smoking that made the doc try to run that guy over; it was the senseless abuse of what MUST have been a can of Diet Coke.
Yeah, that is a little extreme I think. Also, to those who like to call smokers stupid and other names--when was the last time YOU changed a behavior as a result of being treated like that?
My husband would probably give that doc a high-five if he saw him. He's a little bitter about how his parents smoked his whole life and probably stunted his growth in utero and messed up his lungs and such. :) He drives me to the med school every so often, and we always pass patients with their IV poles/oxygen tanks smoking on the perimeter of Local Univ Hospital. He has definitely mentioned wanting to momentarily lose control of the wheel. Don't worry - he's not in healthcare (and I'm always ready to grab the wheel). :)
Even smokers are people too. They don't smoke because they are stupid. Big tobacco companies spend millions every year to make sure people stay hooked on their drug!
well, if a person is stupid enough to smoke, I guess they might be stupid enough to stand behind my car in the parking garage as I back up.
ReplyDeletemedstudentitis: Wow.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how I will enforce compliance. You will comply!! You will! Good lesson for premeds right here, right Dr. Grumpy?
ReplyDeleteRun over? I've heard of stomping out small fires but doing it with a car doesn't sound like the brightest idea.
ReplyDeleteTreating a smoker as any other fire, though, sounds like a good idea to me.
What's the big deal? That's how everybody drives in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was trying to put him out with the water in the radiator.

ReplyDeleteThat's fairly arrogant for a doc, he should have been a lawyer.
ReplyDeleteWIMPS RESORT TO THE CAR, real men duke it out. Ergo, the Dr. is a Wimp.

ReplyDeleteI bet they were expensive pants.

ReplyDeleteWas that Happy Hospitalist? He's pretty against smoking - and he drives a luxury SUV.
