10 years old, the same age of my brother when we buried him-congenital heart defect undetected 39 the age of my other brother when we buried him -cancer
Every day is a gift. Even the ones that suck, and there will be more than a few of those.
I agree with Kathy G, it's becauase they are getting older and you're not. I know I certainly don't feel as old as the calendar claims I am. I feel like I am still 25 but my body does not function like it did then!
Anonymous 8:35, we buried my baby brother at age 22 after a car accident.
I'm the youngest of 4. My brother (the oldest) is 10 years older than I. So the milestone years are a bit hard on my mother (now 83 and going strong. 2011 will see me turning 50 and bro turning 60. I think Mom is probably going to spend the last half of this year rocking in a corner.
My mother openly admits she lies about MY age to the people she works with. "I just can't confess to having a 39 year old daughter!"
I'm sure my 40th will be harder for her than for me - not only because of her reflected age, but because my brother didn't make it that far, he passed away at 39. As Grumpy said, doctors sometimes surprise themselves with their own failings. He was an doctor, accidentally did him self in by using ether to get a quick nap in the on-call room.
Tell me about it. My baby boy starts middle school/jr high next year!

It never fails to amaze me how we grow older on the outside, but inside we stay the same.

ReplyDeleteWhat merinz said.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest turned 18 last summer. My son is 16 and my babygirl is 14. I wanted to cry, where the hell did all those years go?
ReplyDeleteDouble digits...it's a big deal.
ReplyDeleteJust WAIT til Marie starts getting all tweeny and angsty on you.
Ugh.
What really fazes me is when I meet someone that was born the year I graduated from high school.
