Starting out on the right foot

Dr. Grumpy: "So we'll start you on Aspirin. Dr. Internist is going to work on bringing down your blood pressure and controlling your diabetes. I've set up for physical therapy to get you started on an exercise program. Is that all clear?"

Mr. Tia: "Yeah. I know what I need to do. Take the medications, and focus on exercise and weight loss."

Dr. Grumpy: "That's going to be key. Other questions?"

Mr. Tia: "Yeah, is there a lunch place near here called Phil's?"

Dr. Grumpy: "Uh, not sure. Why?"

Mr. "Oh, my buddy told me it's around here, and to try the hot Italian beef and cheese sandwich if I'm ever in the area."

  2. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it's not super huge or comes with fries or something.

Everything in moderation. Even the American Diabetes Association says not to go nuts with your diet.

  4. And meanwhile, the public whines about how docs push drugs over proactive strategies...

  5. The words 'noncompliant' and 'just like every other patient in the world' comes to mind.

    I think you're hilarious....or a touch unbalanced, I can't decide.

  7. I think you have one of the funniest blogs out there. I've learned not to be drinking anything when I read you, tired of cleaning out the coffee I spit all over the keyboard. When my husband had to see a neuro, I told him not to worry, about the impression he was going to make.

  8. You never know, it could be high quality roast beef with low-fat provolone cheese on 7-grain bread with only mustard for dressing.. ok maybe not but we can hope, right?

  9. He said that he'd FOCUS on exercise and weight loss, not that he would actually exercise or try to lose weight.

  10. Bigger question is whether Dr. Grumpy is going to try out the beef sandwiches at Phil's along with the usual diet coke?

  11. A.generic doc is asking the same question _I_ had in mind. It sounds delicious.

  12. Everything in moderation, I'd say. Hopefully he gets the 6 inch version, with extra veggies, and walks there. I'm on a fairly strict diet, but am specifically allowed one 6 inch Charlie's Steakery Philly Cheesesteak every 30 days. However, that's only if I'm good the rest of the time. Oh boy, I'll give up a lot while looking forward to that cheesesteak every month.
